Today is just an okay day for a Rasmus Andersson trade. #Makeawish

Don’t they pay state taxes based on the jurisdiction that the games are played? I’m pretty sure that makes the taxes for the players complicated as they play in a variety of tax jurisdictions.

I think so too. But the property tax structure could be vastly different and that doesn't change based on where you work.

The Vegas core is strong but it is also getting to be one of the oldest groups of the contenders. Bruins are similarly aged (until Hagens joins the group). Stars' core are quite a bit younger with guys like Robertson, Johnston, and Harley in the mix.
Sharks, Ducks, Mammoth, Kraken are all significantly younger cores that may be playoff contenders right away and cup contenders after a couple of more adds.
In each of these cap structures, Andersson wants to maximize his career earnings and the easiest way to do that is with an 8 year contract so he has a lower AAV against the team cap without sacrificing his own earnings.
|
I’m not Andersson. That’s all up to him decide but the smaller the salary difference is the less it will matter if he prefers Vegas. If he thinks Vegas has the best shot at winning a cup over the next two seasons that might be all that matters and he doesn’t care about the five after. I’m also going to go out on a very short limb and say that his agent has a pretty good ballpark of what Vegas is willing to pay.

It’s also possible that New Hampshire gives a rebate based on proof of residency but I am not sure how that works.

Yeah, I was looking at a job in Portland and you couldn’t get away with living in Washington to avoid state tax. They tax basis where you get paid.

It's kind of strange how this is dragging out. While making breakfast this morning my mind went on a tangent.
Imagine if, in this situation, or any other trade for that matter, Conny just told 31 other teams: "Look, Andersson is being traded. If you have interest, submit your trade proposal by noon Monday. My team and I will review the proposals and make a decision by 4 pm on Monday. We will let you know if you have won". Silly, I know, but I chuckled.

That, of course, does not take into account of a possible extension.

Sure doesn't. Was just something I thought about that made me chuckle. Don't think it needs analysis.

The hesitation with Boston I am told is not about money as much as how well they are set up to challenge for a title going forward which lets be honest isn't that promising. If Andersson is going to make a long term commitment somewhere there are lots of factors besides that even like taxes and community. So I'm not totally shocked after finding out there are other teams also pushing hard that this is taking longer. Was told the reason other teams have not gotten permission to talk to the Andersson camp regarding contract is because none of those teams have come to an agreement on a trade for the player which Conroy wants in place first. Boston had tabled an offer that both sides agreed upon so they were allowed to try and negotiate a deal. I'm just not sure if Andersson is enamoured with Boston.

From what I could find Massachusetts State tax Max's out at 9%, but property taxes are notoriously high. Whereas New Hampshire or Rhode Island are much lower. But I don't know exactly how things work because most states do have jock taxes and only Washington, Nevada, Texas, Florida, and Tennessee don't. A few cities also enforce their jock tax, with Philly, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Washington D.C. being NHL cities on the list.
This all said, as a player in the East the travel is much easier and a lot less jumping through time zones. Pretty much any city in the East has 12 teams located within a 600 mile radius. So that too could have some appeal.

Pasta and McAvoy are in prime superstars. Hagens is magic beans still. Both Lindholm’s are in their 30’s as is Zadorov. The age of the B’s top players is very similar to that of Vegas as well.
I could see a reluctance to sign there but this is also a franchise that hasn’t picked in the top 5 since Kessel more than 20 years ago and won a cup and made 3 finals in that timeframe.
Interesting to see what happens but I can understand why Andersson would or wouldn’t sign with the Bruins

Gotta think he knows about the other teams pushing for him and wants to get a few offers like a UFA would. So we need these other mystery team to get past the Conroy roadblock first

I don’t know how to properly share tweets but good for Allan Walsh to call out ridiculous stuff like what Friedman said. Below is the tweet

This is just wasted air. Great players are in demand everywhere. But the NHL is not fantasy hockey. Why bring up players that are not available for trade? Vancouver management and coaches are happy with Fil and Fil has no interest in going anywhere else.

Maybe he just wants to be in a situation where he can beat the Canucks and Oilers many times a year. He hates them, and that's what the game needs. San Jose, here is your opportunity!

I think part of the problem is he likely wants a couple teams involved to be able to command a better contract too - Boston being the only team in the mix right now with permission doesn't help Ras get a better deal.
Boston is likely a team that's competitive but needs to add to become a true contender.
They have Pastrnak, Geekie, Lindholm, and Jeannot locked up for 2+ years up front.
On defense he's joining McAvoy, Lindholm, Zadorov, Jokiharju, and Aspirot long term (as an aside Aspirot has been so sneaky good for them)
Swayman locked up long term in net.
Does adding Andersson and potentially Hagens get them to that place....is there a premier UFA they could add to help?
TBH I'm not sure them and Vegas have that different outlooks longterm.
Swayman is better than anything Vegas has in net. D-Core's are relatively similar with McAvoy, Lindholm, Zadorov not that different a top 3 than Hanifin, Theodore, McNabb. Up front Pastrnak and Marner are similar in terms of stars. Eichel and Hertl are better centers than Lindholm and Zacha though for sure. So Vegas has more fire power up front.
You'd have to think his Swedish national team buddies in Lindholm, Lindholm, and Arvidsson have been in his ear this weekend to try to get him to sign.

I think he wants San Jose. Easy opportunity to be the top D for a while. Good young team. Great city.
I think Conroy just is not getting enough from them yet but the player wants to go there
