Oh wow, this thread is bringing back memories. I left Calgary when I was 17 though, but I still remember going to a few places... most notably The Banke.

It was on Heritage and McLeod. After that I think it got converted to a Perkins. I think it still might be Perkins. That place played good music but the frequent stabbings and fights kept me away.

Ah ha Spags. The girls in my group of friends went there damn near every night.
Since Spags left it has been a Perkins, County Diner, Big T BBQ, and I think one more that I cant remember. It is now split in half. A Vietnamese place on one side, Irish Pub on the other.

Didn't Ron Stern own some restaurant in the old Curley's south location? An Italian place? An actual restaurant (maybe with a bar) but not some Al Cologne hangout like this Spagucci's place sounds like.
I think he owned more than one of them, but I also think I might have made this all up in my head.

You're thinking Luciano's. Now the Red Water Grill at least on McLeod. Not sure if Stern still has a stake in it.
The Rocking Horse Saloon, before it was Outlaws.
Senor Frogs down in the west end of downtown. It got hopping on weekends, and was a big place...open air partially too.
Gotham, that dump on 10 Ave just off McLeod.
The last two come to mind as they were both part of the most eventful PubCrawl I was on...a good old donny brook at Gotham with a bunch of drunk tank tickets issued to some buddies.

Wow does this thread ever bring back memories, and make me feel old. I remember using my fake ID at Republik, the Taz and Venom. I also recall going into the old Den, but never remembering coming out.

The Swan is still around. Last time I went there, there was a busty Mexican broad dancing on one of the speakers. I would've gone to dance with her but she was surrounded by uggos.

Oh man good call. Yeah on Macleod and 10th I think. Years ago a company I was working for darn near leased the same space. As we were checking it out it suddenly occured to me that it was the old Gotham joint.

Haha great list, so many places I had forgotten about. I skipped about three pages, this may have already been mentioned, but does anyone remember Bourbon Street, from like 2000-2001? Pub downstairs, club upstairs? The reason I ask is I cant remember if this was from when I lived in Calgary or Vancouver.

What kind of tricks did everyone use to get into bars?
I had fake ID. The old kind with the sheet of paper and the laminated card. I've also erased and re labeled many a license with stenciling from office depot. Anyone remember scoping out bars yo see if they had black lights at the door?
Before my fake ID we would go to the Kings Horse early, like seven o'clock and hide out because they only had bouncers at the Fox door. Wait long enough and don't attract attention until it gets busy and you're golden.

A few times I just showed them my driver license that showed I was under-age. They obviously didn't check the year and assumed if I was showing it to them it had the right year. They would check the picture against my face but disregard the date itself.

I mentioned Bourbon Street earlier. I wasn't around long. It was on first st south of The Night Gallery.
The only thing I remember is it had 2 or three floors and a glass dance floor. I think they were a chain.
