Obviously its all speculation but the rumored Dallas offer with a pick in the high 20s to 30s and a B winger prospect a long ways from the show in hemming isn't even in the same ballpark as the Boston and Detroit rumors. Turning in and hoping to wake up to not Dallas and especially not Vegas.
Probably a better first though which in a few months is a new youngster...assuming this is real and we aren't just debating nonsense lol
Absolutely. Like I’ve said all along, the first is the most important asset coming back, and we won’t get a better one than this one- especially when Toronto goes down the tubes….
This pick could mean another top-6 center in the pipeline.
Lohrei and Poitras were pretty hyped players just a couple years ago, were they not?
Like almost "untouchable" pieces for the Bruins. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember seeing Bruins fans talk about them.
Lohrei seems to be a bottom pairing defenseman, albeit a good one. He just turned 25, but there could still be some untapped potential. He doesn't get huge minutes, but seems to make the most of the ones he gets.
Poitras came into the league as a teenager and was reasonably productive right away for his age, but he hasn't done much at the NHL level since then and will be 22 soon.
Personally I wouldn't be too excited about either player, but if the pick was the Toronto pick and ended up being a mid-first, that is pretty decent.

For me, the biggest part of this deal is grabbing the Leafs' pick here. They can realistically drop enough for the Flames to get a franchise-level player in the draft. With all the hand-wringing about McKenna and Stenberg not being centers (ok, very mild hand-wringing at best), and with Lawrence not being so productive in his switch to the NCAA (I didn't check tonight's scores yet), he could fall to the 6th-10th range (and not to mention Bjorck and Malhotra!
Imagine coming out of the draft with one of McKenna or Stenberg, and one of Lawrence/Bjorck/Malholtra/Verhoeff (seems he is dropping)... That's a monumental shift for this organization.
Come on Leafs, just stink it up. You know you are a mid team without any gumption. Just give up!

Trouble is, the Leafs are one of the higher-scoring teams in the league. Between Nylander, Tavares, Knies, and Matthews, they're going to score too many goals to finish at the bottom even if their defence implodes completely. They're rather like the Oilers, but with four capable players instead of two. (They're even tied with the Oilers at the moment with 54 points.)
I do think they're likely to miss the playoffs, especially now that Florida is beginning to creep up on a wild-card spot. Dare I say they'll finish in the ‘mushy middle’? Or is it only the Flames who ever do that?

Pick is protected when don't want them to suck too bad...I also don't think you have been watching Florida lately either. They are beggining to creep alright but not up the standings.
Any tweet from a source that has a verified checkmark related to the Flames has been posted in this thread within 10 minutes it was created every time just a FYI. Usually within 2 minutes.

The Panthers are only three points behind the Leafs now, even with the Leafs' recent hot streak, and have a game in hand. We know they're capable of playing better than they showed early in the season. I don't think it's a stretch to think the Panthers could pass the Leafs in the standings or even get a wild-card spot.
