The DOJ's position is that many of the documents pertain to other criminal cases now in process, and cannot be released without redaction because (1) it may jeopardize the prosecution of those crimes, and (2) the names of victims (who have a right to privacy) are also mentioned.

You still haven't grasped the essential point, which is that those documents could have been released at any time when Trump was not in power, but weren't. Why were they not used against him before he got to the White House?
