Dreger was saying he was shocked Rasmus played yesterday and wasn't scratched for trade protection. I am confused because I thought it was against the rules?
Unless Dreger doesn't even know the rules around that lol.

It's not against the rules just frowned upon by league and NHLPA

It's technically not against the rules. It's kind of a bro code thing. An unspoken rule. League is probably going to cinch that up in the next round of CBA negotiations.

Frowned upon by Bettman years ago but I don't think it's against the rules

Taking a while to get to 5000

Scratching for one game is fine, its the prolonged removal from games that was frowned upon

I dont think his time in Stockton would be a positive impact on signing in SJ

After next season, it's 31 year old Ras making 9.5 M and a late 1st for a top rated prospect in the league?
Kadri 50% RS makes more sense. Smith is playing the wing and may play they wing for years. No need to dump Misa unless you get a ton better for many years.

I don't disagree and maybe the Flames need to add someone like Basha too to make it work but the Vegas 1st has potential to be good in a deep draft and the Sharks would be extra motivated to unseat the Oilers and Knights by holding both of their 1st round picks.
It is tough to trade within the division. Many Flames fans know and love Andersson. A few Sharks fans might remember Misa's name but I doubt they really know him simply because they are not a hockey-crazy market.
But the Sharks PK is pretty rough right now (24th in the league) and adding Coleman would be a huge upgrade.

NHLPA doesn’t like it. We will see if this goes fine today but make sense he wasn’t scratched if it doesn’t.

Oh boy, if Ras ends up in SJ, they'd climb up real high on my list of teams I can cheer for. Toffoli, Celebrini and Ras. That team is on the rise and it would be smart for Ras to join them.

One thing about this potential Ras situation, if the rumors are true and he is playing ball with Conroy and ends up extending somewhere he may not have originally considered, he will be going out with absolute class, and I will be cheering hard for him to get a cup where he lands.
On the other hand, I will also be hoping the team that trades for him crashes and burns and misses the playoffs for the benefit of the 2026 1st they trade the Flames in the deal (or 2027 i suppose). Hopefully he wins the cup in one of the years we dont get the draft pick, unlike Florida.

Well it's a little different than what people were saying yesterday. That discussion was around sitting him until a deal was made, which as posters we had no idea how close it actually was, could have been weeks or even months out in which case it's unrealistic. If the deal is a day or two away and feeling more imminent which in hindsight it looks like it is, then yes, they probably should have sat him last night.

Not sure playing in Stockton is a great representation of what Northern California offers to families

Stockton is sketchy AF.
But San Jose is really nice.
A little bland perhaps, but I can imagine raising a family there.

Ya, Graf makes more sense than Muk. If I remember correctly, the Flames were trying for Graf when he was coming out of college.
But really, if the prospect is good enough, I would be happy to take a bad roster player (Skinner). The Sharks are at 48/50 contracts right now and are going to need to dump a contract if they keep adding.

Exactly and who knows if Mangi and himself did not have a few trips out to San Jose in their good ol’ reliable Saturn and liked it there.

I could see why Rasmus would want to extend in San Jose. He's had a first hand look at McDavid in Edmonton for his entire career, and he probably sees Celebrini doing similar things (but with more character).
Plus San Jose is already in a much better place with their prospect and talent than Edmonton was during McDavid's entire career.
He would be a central part of them winning a cup in the next 3-5 years.
