TV: Heated Rivalry
Considering how big this show has gotten (and that it’s Canadian-made and funded), I’m kind of surprised we don’t already have a thread for this.
It’s honestly way better than it has any right to be, especially given that the book it's based on started as Crosby/Ovechkin fanfiction. The last two episodes in particular were standout TV.

My wife watches it, I tried it and had to give e up after 5 minutes, its so bad. I dont think they did any research and the quality is pretty low.
Apparently it gets quite raunchy.

You might want to give it more than five minutes. It’s spearheaded by Jacob Tierney, one of the creators of Letterkenny and Shoresy. The show is clearly made by people who understand hockey inside and out.
It’s definitely smutty, especially in the first two episodes, but it’s also impressively well executed and acted, particularly considering it was made on a shoestring budget.

Yeah I don't think there's many complaints in regards to quality or research. There were some posts on reddit about the sex not looking realistic/awkward from some LGBTQ+ subreddits, which I guess you could say are in the realm of a quality or research if the person is "Watching it for the plot". But welcome to tv/movie simulated sex, gays. The hetero stuff doesn't look real either.

I dont watch a lot of TV these days, so maybe that's what shows look like now, but it looked cheap, like cheap cameras, poor lighting, makeshift locations.
In the first 5 minutes they had teams practicing in their game jerseys, and Moose Jaw arena (or was it Regina, ICR) looking like a small town rink.

As was mentioned, it had a small budget so accurate NHL dressed arenas were not something they could realistically make, but the comments on the cinematography are a bit of a hot take. It’s arguably one of most praised elements of the show.

My wife is absolutely fascinated by this show and she keeps playing All The Things She Said which is now permanently stuck in my head.
A watched a bit and it’s not for me but I definitely get the appeal especially with the hockey romance book craze. A lot of the praise is from how it respects and closely follows the source material which should be a lesson for other content creators.

The main actors Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams have really good chemistry both on and off camera.

Not sure about the quality/research comment. It certainly doesn’t feel anything like something thrown together on a low budget.

Some people are going to try and find ways to discredit the show without admitting they don't want to watch gay men.
bet you half the men who won't watch the show because of two hot guys having sex would be all over it if it was two hot women.

It’s not so good that it’s above criticism, so there’s a lot of criticism that would make total sense to me, but when people are acting like objectively solid things like the quality of the cameras or whatever it’s pretty obvious.
At that point I’d rather guys just acknowledge they’re uncomfortable. Some people are uncomfortable watching straight sex on tv/in movies, it’s fine if watching gay sex makes you uncomfortable too. But making up weird criticisms makes it more awkward and just makes it sound like the person’s gripe is more than discomfort with the content.

His dad was behind Bon Cop, Bad Cop - which, if you haven't seen it, you really should. It's a great CanCon movie.

Ha! I watched the first episode last night and was thinking to myself, "hmmm... reserved, 'boring' Canadian and highly social Russian phenom players?". Neat to find out that is what the original was going for.
As for the first episode, I liked it and thought the cinematography was done well, but I also don't have any idea with that stuff. I just thought it "looked nice". I did roll my eyes as it was revealed how terrible the Russian players' family are. Just seemed cliche and a bit of politics added in that isn't needed. Overall, really enjoyed and will keep watching.

A couple female friends of mine from the US actually asked if we could all watch this show together because they heard it was good and don't know a thing about hockey.
I'd say that's a pretty glowing endorsement of this show on the type of impact it is having. I've been providing meta commentary about what feels 'realistic' vs 'not realistic' when it comes to the actual hockey stuff, which they've also been enjoying. Maybe I can convince them to become Flames fans...

Maybe hold off on telling them about the difference between game/practice jerseys. Wouldn't want them to judge the show too harshly.

A gay Russian hesitating to come out due to culturally accepted hatred of LGBTQ+ in their country that their family adheres to?
Pretty sure that'd be a pretty big focal plot point no matter what was going on in the world.

How much do you think Scott Hunter was tipping Kip? 25%? lol
100%, 1000%?
Aside from highlighting how pedantic I am, I was actually curious while watching it. Let's say a multi-millionaire athlete walks into a smoothie shop and in their own way of flirting they leave a massive tip. What do you think that number would be for..say, an $8 smoothie?
