Only reason I care is if it gives us a better return. Otherwise no care at all. Just need to move on

As a rental a 1st + mid prospect is probabky what happens.
With an extension is probably a 1st + a better prospect.
In the end since it's gotten to this point it's tough to expect an elite return or a blue chip prospect coming back. I'd probably put the most emphasis on whatever they can do to get the highest possible 1st more than anything.

I know all sorts of obscure CBA tiddle-taddle. And movie quotes. But pretty much always very little when it comes to trades until well after they unfold.

Be great if Detroit felt Backed into a corner to drop the conditional on extension to get him as a rental For the rumored price. Like someone said earlier. Competition is how you get top Talent.

IMO, more than magic beans, at least one ready or virtually ready above average player to be in the lineup.
I think Conroy has severely underestimated how hard it was going to be to get quality players after the purge a few seasons ago. The cap space that opened up and was to be weaponized, both to use funds to sign UFAs, and to take picks to take on bad contracts, didn’t materialize and now not nearly as many teams have a cap crunch, and the Flames aren’t any further along because they didn’t/weren’t able to use it. Some UFAs, quality ones and or rentals (aka similar to Mantha) said thanks but no thanks and trades didn’t materialize either as anticipated or fell through.
As a result he’s well behind on the timeline where he thought this team would be in Jan 2026, when he ditched Zadorv and Hanifin and Lindholm etc, to be, probably by at least one full season.
If they ditch Anderson and Coleman and potentially Kadri, it can’t be for marginal returns just to tank, because even if they tank and the get lucky on some of the magic beans (and those are big ifs) there’s no guarantee they are going to be able to simply acquire good established players to properly supplement those young players and their development, after the new building opens.

A first rounder or equivalent prospect that plays right shot centre or a bigger LHD.
If he’s extending or we’re eating cap I’d like to see us get at least another second rounder or equivalent prospect. An additional late round pick on top if both.
That would be my hope.

We always get over excited, expect the world and then feel really down when we see the return (even when it turns out well for us in the long run). I'm going to set my expectations low then everything else is gravy.

I wish they didn't remove the ability to add a condition to a trade if a player re signs
We could trade Ras to Detroit for Danielson and a mid pick and then add the 1st rounder if Ras extends in Detroit
I didn't think it was an issue in the old CBA so not sure why the NHL had a desire to remove it

Because the player looses leverage, as it adds to the cost of their contract.

A young C with #1/2C upside. Basically Danielson (or better).
I would skip the 1st round draft pick to get the player, especially since the chances of getting that player with a late 1st round pick is very low. Getting a winger or D with a late 1st round pick would be disappointing as that just piles on more of the same into the org chart.
Also, with the top of the 2026 draft being wingers, it increases the need to land a C in the trade.

For me it's the equivalent of 1st + 2 x 2nds, for Andersson + extension. I could be setting the bar too high, but that's what BOS paid for Lindholm, OTT paid for Chychrun, etc.

1st rounder and a decent/good prospect for me. I can see conditional picks included as well. I'd be ok with that.
