Not that it matters but we must use different sites because Quanthockey had him 7th last year in PPG. Either way the guy just scores. Basically had the same PPG as Ryker Lee who went first round.
Higher PPG than McKinney (2nd round), Ryabkin (2nd round), Will Moore (2nd round). Curious to see how this kid turns out.

How about Cole Perfetti? I think he’s mostly a winger for the Jets, and while he’s definitely made improvements, he was considered to be a weak skater when he was drafted- and I don’t see Wyttenbach having high-end speed. Both are undersized, and both are offensively gifted players.

Maybe Team USA, which fell to Finland in the quarterfinals of the 2026 IIHF World Juniors and averaged four goals in five games, could have used his skillset. Wyttenbach was hoping to be in Minnesota for the tournament.
“I think I was in the conversation. I wanted to be on the team and I think I deserved it, but it’s out of my hands. They picked a great team. I will have another chance next year, and I hope to be a top guy on that team and bring a gold for the U.S.”

“I went to watch him play and said ‘Oh my god, I love this kid.’ He’s going to fit well into how we do things,” said Quinnipiac coach Rand Pecknold, who has had 14 All-Americans and almost as many NHL players as the winningest active coach in Division I. “He reminded me a lot of Sam Anas. Same skillset. The way he (Ethan) controls the play and creates space for himself. You can’t teach what he does.”

“The award meant everything. Growing up, people had their doubts (about me). Anger issues, small things. You don’t get a good rep coming from the Island. Being able to win the award and show everyone I was different from what people were saying was important to me,” said Calgary’s fifth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, about earning the honor named after Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.

Sioux Falls head coach Ryan Cruthers, who scored 50 goals as a collegian before skating in eight pro hockey campaigns, was impressed with the New York kid. “I always loved the way he played the game from a competitive standpoint and hockey IQ. When we traded for him, I believe everyone thought it would take a bit of time to adjust to the level. We gave him an opportunity to play big minutes right away and he took advantage of it. He has an elite brain and drive to get better so he does the work to be successful. It's not really a surprise when he has success because he does the work to earn it.”

Wytter has 17 points in his last 10 games and is up to 31 points in 22 games, good for 3rd in NCAA scoring and 4th I believe in PPG (stats aren't fully up to date on the league site).
Team USA really bungled their selections by not including him.

I think whats lost here is despite a significant age gap Wyttenbach is leading his 12-4 team in scoring by 7 points as an 18 year old.
We could have a bigger DeBrincat in our system

Keller strikes me as being a bit more dynamic, and he’s a better skater. I still say Perfetti.

“I was really planning on going back to Sioux Falls due to having to get a knee surgery done in the summer,” Wyttenbach said in an exclusive chat with Daily Hive. “I just didn’t want to rush the recovery. But then, when I got drafted by Calgary, they were pretty dead set on me going to school and taking that next step and being challenged a little bit more than I would have been playing in the USHL this year.”
|
Quote:
Through just 22 games, Wyttenbach has racked up 12 goals and 31 points. His point total not only leads Quinnipiac, but is first amongst all NCAA freshmen. While many have been caught off guard by his immediate success, the Roslyn, New York native believed he was in store for a big season.
“I had no doubt that by the end of the year I’d figure it out,” Wyttenbach said. “I expected to finish around a point-per-game. I kind of figured out the college style a little quicker than I had anticipated. My season in the USHL took me 15, 20 games to get going. That’s kind of what I was expecting this season. Obviously, I have no complaints, but I was a little surprised at how quickly I adapted.”
|
Quote:
It’s become quite apparent that Wyttenbach should have been taken much earlier in the draft. That said, he doesn’t seem to hold any bitterness over how things played out.
“You take everything with a grain of salt,” Wyttenbach explained. “Right now you can say that [I should have went earlier], but three months ago nobody would argue me being a fifth-rounder. It’s one of those things where it happened, and I’m hoping that one day I can make Calgary look pretty good for taking me in the fifth round.”
|
Quote:
Though he would have preferred going higher, being selected to the Flames has been quite exciting for Wyttenbach. That is largely due to the fact that he got to join the same organization as one of his good friends, Matt Coronato.
“He’s an unbelievable guy, someone who is really good to me. We skated with [Flames power skating coach] Danielle [Fujita] in the summer. He’s been super good with communicating with me on a monthly basis, just talking and staying in touch.
“He’s someone who has been really important in being a role model for me, and now with the Flames connection, it’s been really cool.”
Having known each other for nearly a decade, Wyttenbach was comfortable telling Coronato in a joking way that he needed more from him early in the season.
“I made sure to tell him he was on my fantasy hockey team and he had to start scoring,” Wyttenbach said with a grin.

“You see in Calgary, [Ryan] Huska is no joke. It’s good. He’s really set on a specific model defensively. If you can be reliable, you have the freedom to play offence. Now playing for Rand, who is a pretty similar style, I think earning his trust in the d-zone has been something I’ve been progressively trying to do.”

Wow going back to 1980 the only NHLer we drafted in the the 5th round was Ferland.
I see 600 goals and 1300 points for him!

You love to see comments like that where young guys are excited to play for him and prove themselves, especially the offensive sparks. Outside of a handful of posters here Huska seems really well respected.
