I don't know why, but it is terrible. For some reason that was my thing when I was a toddler.

I don't know how the age groupings work. I don't remember, 7 could be wrong as well. It was more the collecting than the reading. Like those idiotic Pokemon cards. I would go to the comedy aisle at book stores and look if there was one I didn't have.
I also collected Fangoria Magazines. My mom got me a subscription to it. And hockey News. I wasn't actually reading how Rick Baker made the American Werewolf in London makeup and transformation, liked the collecting part and cool pics and sourcing fataed movies to watch like Motel Hell or My Bloody Valentine.

I remember liking the one with the Viking, do you remember the name of that one?

I just want to see that very rare Mary Worth where she advises one of her friends to commit suicide.

Even as a kid I knew Family Circus was garbage. I did have books of all the others you mentioned though, plus that one comic where the characters aged normally through the series which was really unique. Can't remember the name of it though

My now adult kid was cleaning out stuff and found his Garfield books, which he loved back then.
His exact quote was "this stuff is garbage - why did I like it"?

Actual comic strips that were worth reading: Doonesbury, Bloom County, Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts back in the day, Far Side (though not a "strip" I guess). For Better or For Worse was Canadian so included.
Blondie wasn't great but maybe started the sitcom meme of "mid to homely comedian with a hot wife".
