Flames Flames place forward Blake Coleman on injured reserve

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...jured-reserve/

Quote:
A precautionary absence has turned into something bigger for Blake Coleman.

The Calgary Flames forward was placed on injured reserve by the team on Tuesday, meaning he will miss at least the next two games.

Coleman has not played since Jan. 8 against the Boston Bruins, a game that he left early. Afterward, head coach Ryan Huska said Coleman was "probably just a little bit sore and not anything we wanted to push at that time."

Yep, we are playing with fire when we keep playing these guys that should be traded.

Rasmus should sit until he is dealt.

Does Gridin get the call up with a spot in the top 9 open?

If he isn't traded for another month + then what?

If a trade is imminent, sure. If not, play them.

If you have a surefire deal in the works and hammering out the details, sure sit them but if its all speculation - how long will you be willing to sit a player? 10+ games?

I would. What does it matter if any of these guys play or not at this point - its not like you are playing for anything.

I would be willing to sit him until he is traded. Hopefully by the Olympic break.

The way he plays and blocks shots, it is a risk if he plays.

Doubtful. They'll be home this weekend and Coleman likely to play on Saturday.

I don't think you can do that.

So you diminish any trade value he has since he won't be playing hockey, that logic doesn't work.

Also good luck telling an athlete to sit on the sidelines because they're healthy and possibly could get traded - even though he has term left.

You cant just sit a player because you might trade him in the next few weeks Rhett.

They'd probably file a grievance with the NHLPA

I don't think you can sit Coleman and Kadri because that's a bit of a different scenario.

But if the Flames think something with Andersson can happen in the next week to 10 days then I think sitting him is a consideration they have to start making along with the agent.

Especially since its potentially a complex trade if a extension is involved too.

It all depends how close it is, but if there are discussions happening with teams about the packages that are agreed to, and it's coming down to if he will re-sign with a certain team or not, then I don't think it's hurting Andersson to sit for a game or 2 if things are that close.

If things aren't close then that's a different story.

The NHL and NHLPA has rules for these things...you should be happy Coleman has a minor injury? Wasn't the master plan to trade him for basically anything and make the team worse? Now he isn't in the lineup but can still get closer to deadline value.

Haven't teams done this before? I believe this is quite normal. Not for the Flames, but for other teams.

If Andersson and his agent have been involved in the discussions and are aware there's a deal imminent in the next couple days then maybe, but like others have stated if you sit him out for a month before the olympics he'd probably file a grievance with the NHLPA, and it would be terrible optics for management.

Listing some examples should be pretty easy then - let's have them!
