So it is definitely possible that Reschny could be a regular NHLer by then, especially on a young rebuilding club. But it would require him outperforming his draft position (18th) and first or second line minutes is probably unrealistic.
Well, Oliver Moore is a regular and he was drafted 19th OA that year. 27OA Ritchie is a regular . Honzek was 16 OA and he'd be a regular if he was healthy. I'm expecting Gridin by next year.

We’re likely worse next year. Thought I’d see a lot of Landon DuPont in this thread

I think we already have 2 regulars in CGY in Honzek, and Brzustewicz, and they don't look out of place.

Only 2 forwards from the first 18 picks didn't get into any NHL games.

I agree that Reschny being a top 6 C out of the gate is very optimistic, but it's hard to spitball the C's without knowing the returns on trading Kadri, Coleman, Andersson, and IMO Frost next year.

Alexis Joseph would be my preferred due to our RD strength at this time. But if he is that good it’s always BPA

This exercise sure shows how elusive the all important elite #1 C remains for this team, something they have yet to have in the 21st century. Lots can change in two years with respect to someone becoming available via trade as infrequent as that happens, or maybe they see Schmaltz or Hischier as having another level via UFA acquisition. Until then, just gotta keep adding bullets to the draft capital chamber.

I've always been a BPA guy but if the lottery balls fall in the Flames' favour come June 2027 you probably have to go Joseph if things are close enough. And who knows: that's a long time away and maybe Joseph is consensus first-overall by then. But wouldn't it just be the Flames' luck to miss out on him somehow too?

Moore is playing for sure, but 11th in icetime among forwards. So not 1st or 2nd line and I believe he has been healthy scratched a few times

Honzek has earned playing time, but not yet a regular. He was in the AHL at start of the year.

So I still believe that expecting Reschny to be a top 6 forward at the start of the 2027/28 season is a stretch. More likely be earns regular playing time by end of the year.

I don’t think that comparison really works. Honzek has been trying to break in at the position where the team is deepest. Reschny will be playing the position where they are shallowest now and about to get worse. The door is wide oorn for any prospect who can play centre.

Well the premise of the thread is to build out a competitive lineup for the start of the season. The odds of Reschny starting the season as a top line center on a competitive team at age 20 is remote. If they are trying to lose, maybe but even then I think the team likes to shelter it's youngest players for a while.

I put him on a line with McKenna (and Coronato) precisely because they will be sheltered. But I would feed them ice time together. Don't worry about line order.

I think Reschny has an NHL game despite being on the smaller side

Who says he has to be a top-line centre to be on the roster?

Yeah I guess Maddox Schultz is 2028 draft year

Tij and McKenna reunited with Parekh and adding Landon DuPont will be fine for the new building opening

This exercise just proves to me that this team wont be competitive until probably about 29/30.

Long way to go if they do this right.

It’ll be 5 years starting when we draft a #1 center.

If they are generational they might be in the league before then, but about age 23 is when we will most likely contend.

So early 2030s.
