I realize it is unlikely Hamilton waives to come here, but I think it could actually be an excellent fit: - Hamilton's deal is only 3 years, Sharangovich is signed for another 5
- Since most of Hamilton's Signing bonuses are already paid he would only cost Calgary $4.8M a year, or $14.6M in total.
- Hamliton's game seems very similar to Parekh, and I think he would be good to have around for his development
- Andersson is going to move soon, freeing up a top 4 RD spot
- Hamilton could be flipped, even with 50% retention you only have to pay him $7.3M over 3 years, and we won't need the cap space.

It would never happen. The Devils got rid of Sharo after healthy scratching him in the playoffs.
I doubt they have any interest in bringing him back.

Any idea of Hamilton coming back to CGY isn't logical.
Flames don't need a RHS and are actively shopping 2 of them if rumors are accurate.
Flames want to use the kids and see what they have.
Hamilton's first tenure did not end well as we know, I doubt there's any desire from either side for a reunion.

Tampa has shown they like NHL players more than prospect/picks. I would love to take Tampa's draft capital regardless about how far into the future it is. We should be collecting lots of short term draft picks through other trades so having some spread out longer is fine by me.

NJ hates Sharangovich, Calgary and Hamilton gave mutual dislike.
Nuff said.

No. One of the primary reasons that the Flames are not keeping Andersson is because we do not have room for him if we want to be playing Weegar, Parekh, and Brzustewicz.
Adding Hamilton arguably makes the situation worse and at that point we should just offer big money to Andersson.

NJ is not trading to get Sharangovich back, a guy that was either playing on the 4th line or healthy scratched in the playoffs his last year there.

Also I wouldn’t want any young D “learning” from D Hamilton. Unless we want someone to mentor low compete and commitment to winning.

Why are some people talking about re-acquiring Dougie Hamilton? I don’t see any way the Flames even consider that.

Dougie does bad things to locker rooms, no matter what he does out on the ice. Not sure what, but there has been whispers. The GM in Boston (Sweeney?) that traded him here made a comment something to the effect that he was a “whiner”, or a “spoiled brat”.

They could make Kadri work there with the Flames willing to retain, have the Flames take back Bjorkstrand or move him on their own.
Tampa still has a couple attractive prospects in Geekie and O’Reilly as well as their 2nd rounders in the next two drafts.

I don't want Hamilton back but don't think he's the issue in this scenario
He has a NTC that was given to him by the Devils and he choose not to waive it, that's 100% within his rights.
It seems the Devils org is the one that made a bit of a mess of this in their pursuit of Hughes and lost their locker room.
(Probably doesn't hurt that Luke and Jack might blame Hamilton and Palat for Quinn not being a Devil)

I don't think that Hamilton would realistically come back here, nor do I particularly want him back. I was just looking for a creative way to free up some top 9 winger spots, and in particular get out from under that Sharangovich contract. Especially if Calgary was willing to flip Hamilton with retention.
---
As far as RD go, Weegar can play on the left side as well, so the Flames could roll 3 pairings, until they flip Hamilton:
Weegar - Hamilton
Bahl - Parekh
Kuznetsov - Brzustewicz

Bringing back Hamilton and having him do the ribbon cutting when the Glenbow re-opens would be hilarious.

Let's talk about the Detroit offer again. I like talking about that one much more than a Dougie Hamilton trade!

Detroit one is feeling unlikely. Feels like we are not going to get that good of a deal.
I just want it to happen soon.

The thing about Dougie Hamilton is he loves getting paid what he does to play hockey, but doesn't love being a professional hockey player. He just doesn't have the burning passion most NHL players do - for all but the most gifted passion is a prerequisite of success in getting to that level in the first place.
However that blase attitude in an environment where most are blindly putting it all on the line on a daily basis in pursuit of victory wears thing really fast. In Calgary, Dougie would softly mock teammates who were, in his mind, irrationally angry after loses. He just didn't get it - it's one game, who cares right? Bad enough at home when everyone can leave the rink, now imagine a flight where everyone is glum aside from one upbeat guy who doesn't see what the big deal is. At first, everyone just kind of chuckles and brushes it off. After a while, though, the guys who can't turn off from hockey start getting really annoyed by it. And then there's the coaches who are doing everything they can to maximize everyone's work ethic and performance, only to have this joker undermining things in their eyes. Even the innocent photo-bombing we all loved - the real hardos got sick of that eventually, viewing it as not taking things serious enough for their liking. A bad losing streak and things really get tense. He also has a short temper and is extremely set in his ways, hence never changing with his attitude and antics, and wearing out his welcome at every stop. Basically quitting on the team after the way the Flames (fairly) treated his brother was the end. He almost has a blend of Cooley and Bryzgalov: why are you guys so mad we lost? It's just a kids' game we get paid a ton of money to play. Why do you care so much? Win or lose we get paid the same.
With his size, skating, vision, shot, hockey sense, he could be Chris Pronger. And a couple times a season he gets truly pissed off enough to play like it for a period or two...but he doesn't have the drive or concern to live at that level. He's happy to play a game he was obsessed with as a kid and make tens of millions doing so.
Now that makes him sound like a bad guy which couldn't be further from the truth. Any charity event he was the first to put his hand up for. And he didn't wait for the Flames to organize events and ask for volunteers. Often he would turn up at the Children's Hospital on his own time and donated significant amounts of time and money to various local charitable initiatives outside formal Flames events.
The reality is Dougie Hamilton is, in a way, too smart to be a professional athlete. As the saying goes, "there's dumb, and then there's hockey dumb." Listen to Spittin' Chiclets or Missin Curfew and then imagine a guy who takes pride in continuing education having to hang with these guys for extended roadtrips and engage in "bro" team-building activities. He isn't alone in the NHL, but most just suck it up to be a good teammate and avoid becoming distractions. Not Dougie. He's happy to tell it like it is - that he doesn't care what a bunch of dumb jocks think about him. Joining the rookie dinner? No, thanks. Attending the season-end party? No chance. For some, neither acceptable as attendance isn't optional. Dougie couldn't care less.
