For Point I'd bring in Scheifele. Gotta have his production. If one of the other Lightening nepobabies goes down Bennett makes sense.
Wyatt Johnston has 2 less points than Scheifele. Bédard is close behind. Bennett’s had a bum year.
In past teams we’ve complained when players were chosen on past rep versus present play. Even though Bennett’s had success in the POs and 4 Nations, he is not as good as those guys this year.

No...he doesnt have the stats of those guys this year. But Bennett is a Big Game Beast.
Honestly? Short tournament? He'd likely have been the first name on my team sheet. When the going gets tough...Bennett BRINGS it!
He is the perfect short tournament player.

Bennett better be the first replacement. Not sure how he lost his spot to begin with since all he has done since 4 nations is win a cup and Conn Smythe.
Has 30 points in his last 27 games too - Maurice has said it's the best hockey he's played in his career

Well, if he’s riding a hot hand maybe. But this is Olympic reffing, not NHL (and I think they used NHL refs for 4 Nations). That could work against him.
It doesn’t really matter - whoever they pick, Canada is stacked at forward.

The Olympics will have NHL Refs for games where the majority of players are from the NHL.

I don't know if I agree with that. In a 7 game series I'd take Sam Bennett, but I feel he's he's too much of a double edged sword for a tournament as short as this. One boneheaded play could be the difference between a gold medal and being out in the semi-finals.
I think it's the right call to leave him off the team with who else was available in that role.

He was one of the best players and scored a key goal in the 4 nations one game championship game.

That's part of my point about him being a double edged sword. He has gamebreaking clutch ability, and I'd be worried about his very long history of being undisciplined, especially in IIHF rules.
