It’s pretty pathetic honestly. It’s something I’d mock Edmonton for doing and now we are in the same boat.

He wouldn't do that.

The Flames really need to do their part and start dropping in the standings. We currently have an 81% chance of drafting 4-6 overall, and I don't love those odds.

No, I don't expect he would. But one can always dream.

All these outlets are so slow. Steinberg first mentioned this right after the Maloney interview. So November. Now suddenly there's a bunch of headlines acting like it's new information

Pat has actually repeated this as recently as last week which is being picked up on.

Its a weird thing to have to repeat but he has. Thats part of why it comes across as so insecure to me.

I think the Flames will be passed by Winnipeg in the standings. With their roster and their almost even goal differential, there's no way the Jets should be losing as many games as they are, especially with Hellebuyck back after his arthroscopic surgery. But it will be very hard to out-suck the Canucks and Blues, their goal differentials are shockingly bad.

You also have the looming depatures of Andersson and probably Coleman (if not Naz as well). I think the Blues and the Jets are likely to climb. Blue Jackets just got a new coach, perhaps a bump for them there. Ducks are in free fall, but I don't imagine Coach Q's team will stay on such a skid. With Bedard healthy, the Hawks shouldn't drop much.

Right now, if the Flames do sell, I think 32nd place is a two horse race between Calgary and Vancouver.

!@#$ing hate Vancouver.

Yeah that's how I see it too. But hockey is so random its hard to predict.
But on paper I completely agree with your assessment.

Mckenna loves Zayne. That could be a legit duo for years for this franchise, our own Mackinnon/Makar. Manifest it!!!

Honestly, if we don't get McKenna... Stenberg, Lawrence and Verhoeff are all terrific consolation picks. Hell, Bjorck could be just what this team needs too.

For me, it goes:

1. McKenna -> I want McKenna as much as I wanted Tkachuk
2. Stenberg
- - - -<gap> - - - -
3. Lawrence
4. Verhoeff
- - - - <gap>- - - -
5. Bjorck (and others)

I know that's not how most people view Verhoeff though, and I'm probably wrong in my assessment.

Canucks take Stenberg is my assumption if they pick 1.

That franchise loves their Swedes. Naslund —> Sedins —>Pettersson —> Stenberg

Flames keep building around elite wingers

Iginla—>Gaudreau/Tkachuk—>McKenna

That's kinda how the vote turned out too.

https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=200830

Compared to the pre WJC poll, Mckenna still won, but some of the votes shifted to Stenberg this time.

In the 2nd tier votes shifted from Lawrence to Vehoeff but it's basically a dead heat between those two.

I'll run another one maybe when college and junior seasons start to wrap up. Or post NHL trade deadline or something.

I could see this draft being similar to 2014 where all the teams at the top of the draft end up getting exactly the player they wanted regardless of where they pick.

Hopefully it works out better for the Flames this time around.

Trade Andersson, Kadri, Coleman, and Backlund right now. I'll pay for their Ubers to the airport.
