There’s no way that tampering doesn’t happen in these situations so the acquiring team will at least know if that player is interested in joint said acquiring team. Absolutely no way.

If Tampa offered Oreilly and 2027 1st
Detroit offers Danielson and 2027 1st

Which would you prefer in a Ras trade? They're pretty much the same to me

I think the age is where I would go back to. Danielson can fill in now. O Reilly is a bit further out and matches our other prospects ages.

I’d probably lean to Danielson myself for the immediate impact and Alberta kid plus wasn’t an oiler draft pick

The issue with the Hanifin trade seems to be that there was no firm framework in place for for a trade return. This way is simpler, align on the trade return and then see if there is a contract fit.
The punchline of the sign & trade is risk management. If the receiving team wants to eliminate risk then having Conroy put an extension in place before the trade is done is how they do that (and how he extracts extra value).

If Conroy is talking to 6 or 8 different teams then he already has leverage in the bidding war (and Andersson has leverage too). At no point do I think Conroy opens up exclusive negotiating rights between Andersson and another GM where Conroy is not involved (and not playing one team off of another).

If the GM wants that exclusive negotiation with no Conroy involvement then they can trade for Andersson first and then work out the extension with him and take on the risk that he might not sign their offer.

It is definitely an interesting thought exercise. I hope once the dust settles we get to find out how these things played out (but expect that we likely never will).

I’ve been very out of the loop lately. Is there any seriousness to the Danielson + first rumors?

For clarity on the Brayden Schenn-Maple Leafs tweet posted, the full context was excluded. Friedman was talking about last season's trade deadline, not current day, in the clip. Full discussion:

Kyle:
But one thing you wanted to highlight that Nick (Kypreos) had talked about was what (the Maple Leafs) had looked at a year ago around the trade deadline: that Cowan was on the table in an attempt to get Brayden Schenn from St. Louis.

Elliotte:
Yeah, you know, Nick's trade boards and his rumour columns are really good. And when I read that one, I was like, okay, another good column. And then I had a couple of people kind of ask me about it - did I hear the same thing on St. Louis? And I heard mostly the same stuff - but a couple of different things. One thing that I absolutely believe is true is that the Blues told the Maple Leafs if you want Schenn, it was going to be Cowan + Danford + something else - possibly a pick. And (the Blues) said, that is the deal we will do and what it will take for us to ask Brayden Schenn (to waive his trade protection). And so I think that part's 100% true. I think that (package) was on the table.

But the story I heard that was just a little bit different (from Kypreos) was how it all came to an end. Nick reported that he heard that Doug Armstrong wasn't willing to do it. I heard two other versions. So, somewhere between the three (versions) is the truth.

Number one I heard was that (Brayden) Schenn wasn't going to wave to go to Toronto unless the Maple Leafs also got Luke (Schenn). When that was all going on about teams uniting the Schenn brothers, that's what I think Toronto was trying to do too. And if the Maple Leafs had gotten Luke, I think Brayden would have waived to go there. So, part of the problem was I don't think, since that (Luke to Toronto) didn't happen - and Luke went to Winnipeg (instead), where he's now available (again) - I don't think Brayden was gonna waive.

The other thing I heard was that the Maple Leafs also looked at the situation and said, instead of doing that deal (for Schenn), we can do more by making two deals. And they ended up making the deals they made: the one for Carlo and the one for Laughton.

So it's interesting because my information is no better than anyone else's, but I absolutely think that that was the package that was on the table that was going to have to be made to get it done for (Brayden) Schenn. I just heard different outcomes, but Nick is totally right that that was what it was going to take to get (Brayden Schenn).

Correct. Tampa has traded away their next two first round picks, and both are top-10 protected, so their 2028 and 2029 picks could potentially be spoken for too (although, it's hard to imagine this year's pick being top-10).

Do we need to wait?

The first rounder will be very late, the prospect now labeled a B/C will be a bust, and the odds of the later picks amounting to anything is very low. What a terrible trade.

Would hope for an extra pick alongside SOR/Geekie, especially if we retain on Coleman.
