Is it too cynical of me to hope that Trump does actually start military operation in Greenland so that we can all watch the US get even more ####ed over and then maybe, maybe, these Republicans will wake the #### up? Or someone finally shoots him in the head?

I don't think they would, or would be able to. Sanctions would probably be used like when Russia took Crimea. I don't know how effective they would be though.
It would be the end of NATO for sure and probably the beginning of a new alliance to keep both Russia and the U.S. away as much as possible.

You think that if the US just takes it, it’s theirs? Because that’s frankly terrifying. I think military actions is as well, because we’re 100% caught in the middle of that, but I just hope something happens in the meantime that derails all that talk.

Let's face it, if they take Greenland without resistance (which they likely would), Canada's arctic archipelago is probably next. Canada's sovereignty over that area was questioned historically by the Americans.

There are approximately 3 million eligible Alberta voters. Let's say 75% turnout, since it would be an important vote. That's 2.25 million voters. Bribing half of them with $10k each would be about $11 billion. Is $10k enoguh for half of Albertans to shift their vote? I kinda doubt it. But at $100k, or $111 billion you might move enough people. And $100 billion is nothing to the US government.
He could promise $1 million to everyone and then just not give it to them, also. "Sorry, congress shut it down."

My thought was always that they were going to be able to take it without resistance but if a bunch of NATO troops go (let's say British, French, German and a few other countries), I wonder if they're less likely to engage militarily because of the scale of the international incident they'd be creating.

Weird how a business that has had their assets seized three times in that country isn’t sure about committing money there without some assurances. I think the overall reception by the oil execs wasn’t as rosy as Trump expected though.
