I don't think there is any chance they would retain 50% on Kadri - and I don't think they need to.

50% is $10.5M, plus whatever is left for this year (roughly $1-1.5M depending on timing), so pushing $12M. No way they do that unless they got huge assets for doing so - like a 1st and a 2nd or something of that nature. And Kadri, for 3+ years at $3.5M is probably worth a 1st and an A-B prospect. So the buyers would have to cough up a return similar to what Rantanen got. Neither side is going there.

All they need to do, and all they would likely be willing to do, is retain $2M - that is still $6-7M in total, so that's worth quite a bit, plus Kadri at $5M per is worth quite a bit. Attractive for both sides, without having to visit fan fantasyland.

Sec's 'REBUILD. APPROVED.' post still lives comfortably in the penthouse in my head on this warm Sunday morning. What a nice way to close out the week!

It depends on what other teams are willing to pay to get Kadri at $7M vs. $5M vs. $3.5M. If the value is there in the return and the Flames are using 4 retention slots anyway then it makes sense to maximize the return and go all-in on the retention.

Retaining 50% on Kadri helps keep the Flames above the floor this year and helps them get above the floor next season. Next year is going to be a problem to reach the $76.5M floor. We are at $81M projected right now and if we reduce that by Kadri's $7M and Coleman's $4.9M then we are at $69.1M.

Looking at the UFA list, it won't be easy to find a single free agent worth over $7M. If the Flames retain $3.5M on Kadri then it is much easier to find someone in the $4M range that will not be demanding huge term.

Vgk - Ihs-Woz + 27 1st
With the rumour that the Sharks have also been circling Andersson, what does the Danielson + 1st offer do to them?

Danielson is a better prospect than Bystedt. So the Sharks will need to either offer someone better or start looking for the consolation prize RD to rebuild their D group around.... After GMMG watched Ekblad disappear from his rebuild plan is he willing to lose years of his young core because he was too cheap to go after Andersson and opted to keep Klingberg as #1RD?

Sounds like sharks may circle back on Dougie so maybe that’s their contingency. Doubt they float someone like Misa for Ras

The rumour is the danielson package has to have a an extension in place for it to happen. No extension then no trade. I believe it’s been reported that Anderson won’t sign extension with sharks also. So it doesn’t really matter what they will offer unless it’s a rental price.

I totally agree that the sharks are screwing up massively having a young core of capable forwards start to emerge and trotting out that blueline every night. the failure to dive in and support your young players at the right moment before they get too used to losing is such an oilers move, though i guess at least they are in the picture this yeae, but so much wasted potential with how bad the division is . But they seem to be more budget shopping still when I feel like they could win the division by moving prospects they dont even need

Ya... I wouldn't be too excited about building a D group around Hamilton either. Hamilton has been missing over a 3rd of the last 6 seasons. Combine that with the fact that he is a few years older than Andersson (and people here are already pointing out hold ancient 29 year old Andersson is), it feels like a losing move for the Sharks.

I think there’s also a lot of daylight between Ras and Dougie in terms of commitment to the team and building a winning culture. Ras is honestly a perfect add to a young and upcoming team for his intangibles. Dougie not so much.

Right now the only other center prospect I'd want more than Danielson is Konsta Helenius.

Since Buffalo is red hot and Kekalainen might be looking to add... Maybe a miracle could happen.

I think with a lot of smoke goin' on one's gotta think that Rasmus is gone before the Olympic break as we all hope he would.

Likely already posted last night sometime but in case not, Friedman mentioned on HNiC that Dougie Hamilton vetoed a trade to the Sharks in the summer.

San Jose has some pretty good museums too, like the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. Oh and they have Celebrini too… you blew it Dougie!

At the end of the day, he’s still a soon-to-be 36 year old player with 3 years left. I think two 1st round picks is plenty, as salary cap space also ain’t what she used to be.

I will be happy if we get more for Kadri than what we gave for Monahan to be off the team.
