If Ras wants to win over the next 8 years there are not many better options than the Red Wings. Solid defence, Larkin, Raymond, DeBrincat up front.

On the call in show after the game today Steinberg was also strongly hinting or even saying that don’t be surprised if Ras goes to Detroit.

Yes. One caller was saying that Detroit doesn’t really need him, but Steinberg disagreed and said don’t be surprised if he ends up with them. Pat usually isn’t quite as decisive in making those sort of calls/predictions as he was tonight so I’m guessing him and CMP Dave have heard the same thing.

It’d still be 8 vs 7

Doesn't that come into effect July 1, so wouldn't it be 6 year max term if he makes it past July 1 without signing?

Steinberg is the gentle breeze which lets you know the direction things are going.
And he generally doesn't say squat without some knowledge of things prior to saying those things.

Yeah, I totally agree. I was very surprised at how adamant he was.

Isn't this the last year they can do the 8 year extension? If he goes to Ufa, is it 6 years the new max? Or did the 7 year also get extended till start of next season?

The new contract term limits start with the new CBA in September. Contracts signed from July 1 to September 15 can be 7 years long.

It's 7. The league wanted 6.

Even better that it's a 2027 1st, who knows if Detroit will be good next year

Detroit will put some protection on that 2027, something like top 10 protection, with full control to Detroit if they waito defer to 2028 or not
But it's a fair deal if reported, take that deal CC

It will be 7 if the player is signing an extension to a contract that hasn't expired or as an RFA. 6 is the maximum if the player is signing as a UFA.
It's a reduction of one year from the current limits, and takes effect when the new CBA starts on September 16.

May be mistaken but I thought we had some kind of report earlier in the season that the flames were mot going to let the agent and player talk to other teams until after a deal, like what Colorado did with rantanen so we didn't get hanifined again?

The thing is - I have it on very good authority that it wasn't an accident. So that is likely an issue for him. But maybe he can be convinced. They do have lots of Swedes on the team (and no Finns), plus he's played with a couple of the Wings.

They might, if they agreed to the deal before the permission is granted
