I think it’s just the trade control all GMs hand out like candy. That’s the biggest difference but it is way more boring / feels less prevalent than it used to which is boring.

I think it is more we used to be off the internet doing other things. Talk trade speculation with your friends at the pub. Your family would want you to shut up about it. Your coworkers told you they didn’t care. You were forced to go do other things. Now you can doom scroll social media and calgary puck and always find someone to engage.

I'm not sure taxpayers paid for the Panthers new practice facility.

Foley supposedly built the best facilities and takes great care of his players.

But yeah here in Calgary it's the taxpayers paying for the new rink at least

Taxes are certainly not the only factor. They are A factor. I think the factors are, probably in order of importance generally: take home salary (so taxes are a consideration), location and lifestyle, facilities, personal stuff like friends and coaches, potential role on the team and competitiveness of the team.

If that's where they head is at, it'd be massively misguided. Players want to play where they can, and where they can win are with teams with stars. This team has no stars. The goal should be to acquire and build with stars. Getting rid of the veterans helps them do that.

I wonder if Flames management/ownership don't hate to lose, don't love to win, but rather that their driving force is that they're afraid to lose. Can't build anything worth sustaining if you're just a big scaredy-cat.

Ownership and management absolutely wants to win and hates to lose.
