Thumbs up EPL on Shaw. EDIT - NOT WEAK AT ALL!!!!

EDIT: Every thing is this post doesnt matter anymore. Shaw is getting Setanta! Channel 154!! WOO WOO

So it looks like Rogers hooked up with Setanta. If you get Rogers you can pay $15 a month and see every game plus other stuff.

But Shaw isnt on board. We get one game on the Score in Sunday and one game on Sportsnet on Saturday. BUT WAIT! According to Sportsnet's TV schedule only the East and Ontario (and HD) get the game. Absolute BULL.

Anyone know anything about all this? If/when we can expect Shaw to buy into Setanta? What a huge friggin piss off.

Shaw is rapidly becoming a dinosaur in the TV business, especially when it comes to sports coverage. Between this, no CI, brutal NCAA coverage, and a very lacking NFL Sunday Ticket package, I am very close to switching to ExpressVu. The only thing that stops me is the fact that I shelled out $500 for my digital terminal and don't want to spend another $600 on an ExpressVu box.

So let me see if I get this. Rogers isn't putting this onto all of their channels, so that makes it Shaw's fault? Even though Shaw gives you the option of getting the Rogers channels that you say its on?

Or am I reading your post wrong?

Well, I guess that is a separate piss off. lol. I'm pissed at Shaw for not picking up Setanta and pissed at Rogers if they blackout the games here. I'm wondering if they are doing that to us out west cause Shaw didn't pick up Setanta? I don't know how all that BS works, all I know is I'm pissed off.

OK, so if you tune to RSN-East, it's blacked out?

That makes more sense. (ie I understand why you are ticked.)

Well you can probably sell your Digital Terminal for some cash back and when you consider what receiver you are getting for $600, it is a TON better than the Shaw box. But I could understand why you wouldn't want to go through the hassel.

There is rumor Shaw is getting NHLCI, I am curious if it will be the FULL NHLCI package. They just don't have the bandwidth to fit everything especially when their big push is Internet/Phone.

Actually, I meant blacked out on the West and Pacific channels. You might be able to watch it on the East channel if you get it. Guess we will see at 8am Saturday (West Ham v ManCity barf).

This is inconceivable, what a bunch of clowns! I'm comforted in the fact that my club got relegated last year and the only way I could see them is if I somehow got Setanta, I guess relegation was good for something!

You are now officially responsible for me switching to Bell ExpressVu. I should've done it sooner as I get a 35% employee discount on my monthly bill.

I'm mighty concerned about this. I used to be able to watch more Liverpool FC matches here than I could in England, unless I was going to the match that is! Not so, anymore. Anyone know how we go about getting Setanta? I'll be signing up for Liverpool's e-ticket for sure now.

We might be in a bit of luck. Here is a summary of an interview from another board with the head of Setanta...

INTERVIEW ON EPL TALK with Shane O'Rourke, President of North America and Australia - Setanta Sports, discussing the deal with Canada.

The following are just 'notes' I took down, and don't necessarily represent actual words or phrases used.

Setanta Canada will be different than Setanta US. The major difference is that Setanta Canada will broadcast more EPL games than Setanta US. This is because Fox Soccer Channel handles some of the EPL games in the US.

O'Rourke mentioned 200* EPL games. He confirms that the only deal completed is with Rogers and Bell ExpressVu, and by affiliation, any cable companies feeding off the Rogers 'hub'.

O'Rourke confimed that every EPL game will be shown on Setanta Sports Canada (he called it Setanta International Sports Pack), except the 2nd choice Saturday game at 10 am on Sportsnet and the 11 am game on Sundays. He said that some games will be 'delayed' transmission as there are 4 games usually played at 10 am on Saturday, besides the Sportsnet 2nd choice which is exclusive to that network. He also said that regardless of the number of games played midweek (I think he mentioned Wednesday as an example, besides the normal Monday) that Setanta would show them all.

O'Rourke confirmed that they are in negotiations with Shaw Cable and Star Choice, that he is hopeful that a deal will be done soon, but that viewers should continue to lobby Shaw and Star Choice for Setanta's inclusion. He added that Shaw Cable was 'cool' at first to the idea of adding Setanta, but their interest is gaining. He confirmed that Setanta will not be carrying PPV services for EPL games for those unable to obtain the regular sports pack through their Cable provider.

O'Rourke suggested that those who are unable to obtain the Setanta channel, could purchase Setanta Broadband for the interim.

O'Rourke indicated that Canada will have its own Setanta Broadband
(he didn't seem to indicate when, but suggested by August 11) because Setanta Broadband US does not carry some of the EPL games that are broadcast by Fox Soccer Channel. O'Rourke also said that the increased speed transmission to 600K will be introduced soon.

O'Rourke confirmed that, amongst others, the Canadian Sports Pack will include French, Dutch, Scottish leagues, plus Euro and Asian qualifiers, Coca Cola Championship, Carling Cup, Manchester United and Chelsea TV.

O'Rourke confirmed that TSN, through ESPN, will carry Champions League.

O'Rourke said that due to CRTC regulations, Setanta would not (for now) be able to show their 'magazine type shows' in Canada, which they do in the States. Would someone verify this when they listen, please.

O'Rourke explained that, unlike the US, Setanta had to undertake a partnership with an existing Canadian network to abide by CRTC regulations.
If I have any of the interview mis-interpreted, please amend.

looks like it's your lucky day Kevan, i just got this in a memo

More fantastic news for our Sports fans! We are launching Setanta International Sports, which will launch unencrypted to all digital customers, free for the first month, beginning tomorrow.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Since this network is in it’s infancy and is being moved for distribution very quickly, it will air in such a fashion as it will carry and show games only, with nothing yet in place in between games.
As the network moves forward, it will grow into more of a full-fledged network with round the clock programming.
What this means for now is, when there is no game running, customers will see color-bars on the screen in between games. Please be sure to explain this to customers.

Was that from Shaw? I phoned them today and got absolutely no help from them about Setanta. The person said that I was only the 2nd caller asking about it and they had no information whatsoever.
