Man, you thanked a post by sureloss just yesterday where Lebrun says the Flames and Habs have talked about Coleman lol.

You have to be more subtle with this stuff. This one is a bit lazy and transparent even for you.

You are failing to discern between what Lebrun thinks the Flames should be doing and what he is reporting they ARE doing. He hasn't said anything about the latter.

Probably The Wizard venting to his buddy Pierre.

Pierre, I offered Conroy a 2032 3rd-round pick for Rasmus Andersson but Craig keeps telling me he won't even listen to offers like that. He really needs to start listening on his veterans if he wants to move them.

Pierre two months from now: Treliving and the Maple Leafs were in on Andersson until the very end and felt their offer was fair but ultimately the Flames chose to go in another direction.

I never thought I would ever say this, but I agree with Rhett44 on this. I have always been a believer of the actions are better than the words being spoken by Maloney, but this from Lebrun is VERY concerning.

this is the point, well said...

also, what if Lebrun is referring to EVERY vet on Calgary and suggesting scorched earth? although a few of you would love that, i am 100% sure that won't happen.

the funny thing is that when Ras and Coleman (and/or Kadri) are traded, these insiders will pat themselves on the back because they said it should be done.

IMO it would be negligent to not take advantage of the opportunity that has presented itself here for the Flames with their poor season this year.

Manage this effectively and you have the chance to accelerate the rebuild, not extend it.

Update is probably that Conroy is burning up the phone lines, sounds like it is more inbound than outbound though.

click bait title, click bait takes as usual...barnbuner is the same thing every day

Flames are supposedly in the middle despite being bottom 5 all season and doing nothing to improve

This part is exactly why Conroy needs to be more aggressive here and start trying to more aggressively shop these players (if he isn't already).

They are already bottom 5. They clearly aren't going to make moves to try to get better now. They are going to move Andersson 100%.

With all those things considered really what justification is there to keep Kadri or Coleman for another year or two when they are already 35+?

Getting worse sooner and accumulating more assets will accelerate the re-build, not delay it. I think that's the point LeBrun and the Barn Burner guys are trying to make.

the justification is to make the best deal and set the team up for years to come not just take the first offer that comes across the desk.

Most massive "overpays" are closer to the deadline...history has shown as much. Even Lindholms "early" trade was Jan 31st.

TBH I think it all depends.

Every year is different, and this year more than any other before it.

The new salary cap rules, no more salary cap accrual, and the Olympic break, make this a season like none before it.

I don't think Conroy necessarily has to wait until March 6 to get the best return, he has to start being active now to create the market and get bidding wars going to maximize the return on these assets.

Who is to say if the value is there but I think safe to say at this point the Flames are well past taking the first offer that comes across the desk

On the ice, working hard and being able to play dependably in their own end seems like the Flames way under several coaching regimes over the years. So they’ve definitely got a team identity that has stood the test of time and is part of their culture.
How many teams have a bad culture by that definition? If 90% of teams fit under that definition is the Flames culture going to be hard to replicate even if you trade every player on the roster.

I expect people are already preparing their “Conroy’s demands weren’t met - did you expect him to give them away for free” excuses. But the odds are low that Kadri (35) and Coleman’s (34) value will as high a year from now as they are today. If the braintrust of this team doesn’t do the painful but shrewd thing from an asset-management perspective, we’ll have our answer about the organizational DNA.
What happens if the demands weren't met? Is it no longer an actual reason to make a trade because you eliminated by suggesting it's fabricated (prepared)?

Preparing and excuse are more of that eliminate any opposing views by boxing them in stuff that is such a weak way to argue a point.
