Default One Year Anniversary Ideas?

Hey guys,

First off I live in Edmonton, I go to U of A and am in my final year but i also work fulltime at a professional job and make a fairly good living. My girlfriend has graduated , is 4 years older then me (24, and i'm 20) and is entering law school at U of A in september. I'm pretty "serious" about her.

Anyways, our one year anniversary is coming up on September 7th and i'm basically pulling a blank on what we could do. I was thinking of a weekend away in Banff or Jasper but the prices are a little higher then I'd want to pay. ($200/night, plus gas, food, and present) That could end up easily being a $1000 weekend.

I'd say my price range would tap out at about 400-600. Maybe thats to much but i would love to do something special for her. I was thinking of even getting a place in Edmonton and just enjoying a weekend together but maybe thats cheesy.

If you guys have any ideas that are cheaper or more expensive (but worth it) then throw them in.

Thanks!

All ideas and ridicule are welcome.

If you can wait for snow to fall ... my wife took me midnight dog sledding in Canmore once ... that was an incredible experience.

I'd like it to be around late august or early september before we both start school, her in law school, and i'm working 40 hours/ week and taking 3 classes. We won't have a lot of time during the year.

That sounds like awesome thing to do though for later in the year. Is there a number i call or something like that to book it? Or do i just show up?

I can't believe no one's suggested a threesome yet.

I havent lived in Edmonton in a while, does the Riverboat still operate?

What about renting a houseboat in Sylvan for a few days.

You could always just give her a pearl necklace.

That being said, you could go for a weekend up in Golden.
There is a great restaraunt at the top of the ski hill that you have to take the Gondola to. (I bet you could hike it in the summer).
The view from the restaraunt is fantastic, and it is a very good restaraunt (It's got a whole bunch of stars...or rosets...or whatever else the could get), and it's all Canadian ingredients:
When I went I had bacon wrapped rabbit medalions, mountain goat consume, and a caribou steak.

You can stay cheap, there's lots of good hiking, rafting, whatever in Golden, the restaraunt is incredible, and if you take the Gondola back down after dinner (assuming it's dark) you could give her that pearl neckalce then.

Limos are always good to make the ordinary a bit more interesting.

Eg. Dinner at the place your had your first date except you pick her up in the limo, and enjoy a great bottle of wine and a mullet tour afterward

BBS's idea of Golden is a good suggestion if you are a bit adventurous and would like a weekend of rafting/horseback riding and other outdoor activities. You can likely eat at the best restaurant and stay at a very nice hotel for that price range. Being from Edmonton I think you might be able to find similar stuff around Hinton...Another option might be Nordegg out in Central Alberta. Do a loop where you go through Drayton Valley than cut over to Rocky and than along hiway 11. Coming home you can do the icefield parkway, maybe see the glacier and than come home through the park.

Good ideas. I will look into Golden.

How early do you need to book for houseboating? Could i really get one for a weekend with only 3/4 weeks notice?

Also where is the closest houseboating lake to Edmonton? I don't really want to drive 6 hours when its just for a weekend.

Well I lived in Sylvan Lake for 4 years and I don't think they had houseboats for rent there....the Lake really isnt that big. They did have the Zoo cruise, but it was like 2 hours and usually is rented exclusively by private functions. Everyone there who wanted to houseboat for a weekend went to Sicamous.

There has to be a a quaint little B&B somewhere in Kanaskis country, or what would even work better, is set - up a picnic beforehand - remember the spot. Tell her you are taking her to a hotel for the weekend, but really you stop at a remote spot with all your picnic stuff stashed. Dont spare on the candles or anything! She will melt - and you will be getting some right on a riverbank. It's win-win. Of course have a room for the night nearby and a nice gift.

There are people who will rent their own house boats out. If its not a long weekend I have never had trouble (I have done that twice). When I was looking I would just pick up the Red Deer Advocate paper from a local news shop downtown and look at the adds there.

I am sure there is an easier way to look for them online now like there is for Kelowna etc.
