Caught the Frank hit with Pat the other day this morning. The talk of Kadri has died down some but Frank mentioned with the contracts handed out to Wennberg and Dvorak he feels that Kadri would still be the premier center available even with his age and contract.
He also mentioned Andersson as the premier defense rental and called Coleman the premier puzzle piece player in Coleman.
He thinks they move Andersson before the Olympics and if the move Kadri or Coleman that would be closer to the deadline. Also speculates they only move 2 of the 3 (calls it a safe bet) will move but not sure they move out all 3. That leads me to believe Kadri will be retained which is fine especially if they are not getting the offers that make sense to move him. Kadri should get the biggest return of the 3 and if that is not the case it is worth holding him into the summer or next season

There are a handful of teams that walk the line hard enough that they are pinched for cap space even with the rising cap.
The Knights are one such team and the last thing the Flames should do is help them. We should not trade with them this season unless the return is larger than normal.
The Stars are another team in this position. Extending Robertson is going to be expensive, especially with him putting up more goals than Rantanen.
I think the biggest problem with trying to weaponize our cap space is that we do not just take on the contract, we get the player too, and our roster is already really full. Having someone like Lyubushkin on the roster just blocks a young player from getting reps.

Well, this year the team you ice in the playoffs has to be under the salary cap, so there will have to be contracts moved if anyone wants to add

Only explanation I can come up with is that I drafted Hellebuyck on my fantasy team. Fairly high I might add.

Can’t you just sit a player in playoffs vs move him out ?

How I understand it is there isn’t a roster limit in place for the playoffs so you would have to have a player eligible for LTIR/IR to see the cap hit removed from the total cap? Not sure if I have that right.

The Jets are a team that I really hope the Flames don't become. Where they are good enough to make the playoffs most years with their goaltending, but never a threat to win the cup.
They are having an off year. But also I see Toews is their 2nd line center which is not good at all.

Pretty sure the team you dress has to be cap compliant. You can sit one 7m player and put another 7m player in for example. Or sit a 10m/2m and dress 2 6m players

it will be interesting to see if anyone actually does that. Would say the Oilers sit Darnell Nurse in order to play guys they picked up at the deadline? Sounds like drama!

So now they are linked to all 3 of Andersson, Kadri, and Coleman? Cool.
Kadri + Coleman for Hage + 1st.

I think Florida might have to scratch a roster player or two (Rodriguez) if Tkachuk and Barkov both come back for the playoffs.

Not sure if Backlund played his one game with all of these players on the team, but it was the Conroy, Bertuzzi, Aucoin and Primeau era! That's taking it back a long, long way.
However, I think you are right - nobody left other than Backlund from the Gaudreau years after Andersson and Coleman get traded. In fact, it seems like Coleman in some ways is still 'new' to the team somehow. That's a massive amount of turnover.
