Housing in Edmonton
i applied to live on rez at the u of a in January and now i am still on the waiting list to be offered a room. Is the housing situation really that bad in Edmonton and if so does anyone know how i can get access to appartments for rent around the U of A?

Yeah, rental housing around Edmonton is pretty tight...I would suggest if you can to drive around neighborhoods you like ASAP to find 'for rent' signs...and if I were you I would get on it yesterday...

Don't quote me on this but I think there is a HUGE shortage up in Edmonton for places to live. I remember something about even the Eskimo players having to live with fans and office personnel because of it. (or at least I thought it was Edmonton)
Also Calf I am a little disappointed I thought you were going to show a listing for Smyth or Prongers house

Around the university, it's extremely difficult to find anywhere to rent. If you're a first year student, you should be able to get into residence, but it might take them a while to confirm it.
If you need to rent an apartment, make sure that you call on the first or second of the month to see if any suites are available. I doubt you'll have any luck finding one otherwise. So - early September I guess.
You might be able to find a basement suite or the main floor of a house if you look hard enough - the best is just to walk around and call every phone number you find. The Student's Union has a website that lists some places for rent which is worth a shot.
Anyway, best of luck!

There are a lot of apartments near the the U of A. you'll be able to find something just off whyte ave probably at a decent price. When my ex moved out there we didn't have to look too far to find good places.

Was this recently? As fair as I know, housing vacancy is pretty bad right now, and there has been news stories on how even students can't find housing that's affordable.

Student pricing isnt available within one bus ride of the Uni unless you are willing to put 3 in a 2 bedroom place. Deep NE and deep SE are the cheapest places and they are even way to overpriced. I know when I was there, I normally had to do the 1 yr lease starting in August or July just to get a place if you didnt want to live on campus.

Yeah, for a two bedroom apartment around the university, you're probably looking at $1350-$1550/mo for 800-1000ft2.

At this point the HUB would be completely filled with a waiting list. I don't think there will be many options by the U. Maybe try West end or downtown.

What's your budget? I usually keep an eye on ads and can let you know if I spot anything.

I would like to keep it under $850 but for something within waling distance to the university i would go as high as $1000, ( although i do't know how we will get the money)
, also it will be me and my girlfriend so it has to be able to accomidate 2.

Good luck, especially as a first year. If you're looking at residence, you're probably only going to get into Lister. Not really a bad thing, though - if you aren't from Edmonton, Lister's a great way to meet people.
