Yeah I thought it was common for kids to finish the school year out and then move in the summer.

Depends. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. And if they do that's a different problem because the players don't see their kids for weeks.
I know these are first world problems and I know they are not big in the scheme of things - they won't stop a great deal. But they are part of the reason that the closer you get to a freeze, the less likely there will be a trade until after the break.

It's a nothing burger, and rarely deters a trade from being completed

It never deters a trade from being completed. It sure has deterred a trade from being completed right before, say, the Christmas freeze. Especially if you are Brian Burke.

Should Anderson be traded to a US team, and With the way US Customs / Immigration is so slow (see Solo’s waiver claim and slow availability for Colorado), I wonder if having the Olympic break would be needed for immigration.

This team has a lot of problems, but the defensive pairs are not one of them. I don’t see Zayne getting into a game until Andersson is traded. So I hope you’re right!

I don’t think they have had a practice with Zayne back correct? Just morning skates. Tomorrow I would guess is practice day. Then yep Saturday lines up. Depending on andersson too for sure.

Put Bru in Ras’ spot.
Play Zayne 3rd pair with PP time. Maybe pair him with Pachal as a deterrent? Only risk is third pair spend minutes against heavy forechecking energy lines on some nights. That exposes him to more hits. I’m not saying treat him as delicate china, but let’s not throw him to the wolves either.
Ease him in.

They would have sent him to the AHL for a conditioning stint if they thought that.
I've never seen a team so ready to trade their best defensemen of the year but if you are going to do it, this is the now. Can't ask for a better transition.

I agree with easing him in and sheltering him. But I don't really think there's a deterrent against being hit hard. It's not like players were taking big runs at him - he just absorbed a couple big hits.
I always think "deterrents" are more about between whistles. There's a scrum and a player thinks twice about messing with a star because someone will step in. And even then the enforcer has to be on the ice.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I can see this lead to an AHL conditioning stint, then the Olympic break, then a reassignment to the OHL (and on a new team there I'd imagine).

Do they have a deadline as to when they can assign him to OHL?

No but the OHL trade deadline is Jan 9 10PM MT. So the clock is ticking on Saginaw being able to trade his OHL rights.
Seeing as no team has ponied up for his rights yet, it feels like they aren't too sure he is going to be sent back to junior.

I don't believe so but I may be mistaken. Unsure if a CHL team has a freeze or when its implemented.
