They were aware of his comments prior to the Kraken game. So....nope.

Remember when LA just tossed Conroy out of the bus on the side of the highway in Red Deer, and said "you can probably find your own way to Calgary for the game tomorrow night, right?"

Usually the player is in the same country with his wife, and not in an Olympic tournament requiring all his attention.
I’m not talking about the physical movement. I’m talking about his home life. There’s an Olympic freeze for a reason. So the closer you get to the freeze, the less likely it is the trade happens before it.

If you're the team trading for Andersson, do you want to see him come through the Olympics unscathed before pulling the trigger, or is that a non-issue? (plenty of time to recover from whatever before playoffs)

IMO you get a player like Andersson before hand so you are (hopefully) assured of his availability to your team after and you just risk the chance of injury.

Anderson has been hunting at testing the FA market for a while, that likely doesn't happen without family discussion and contingency planning. Remember when the hold up was to keep things stable for the 1000 games ceremony? They literally have assistants and financial means to make their move and transition easier than my family vacations.
The expectation of hand holding for this transaction is getting a bit silly. This is why they are paid like they are.
I love Rasmus, and I am happy for him in his resurgence in a contract year. Choices have been made, and I hope Flames pull the trigger when it's best for the team.

The only 'wrong time' to trade Andersson was right before Christmas. Nothing wrong with trading him before - or after - the Olympics.
As for when he will be traded - it seems as it is definitely soon. Andersson seems like the best defencemen available right now. As a team that needs a top defencemen, do you keep waiting? Or do you simply decide to pull the trigger before someone else does - or before a new team pops up who has lost a top defencemen due to injury?
I can see both arguments - both for trading him before the Olympics, as well as afterwards. I am just trying to not get so excited about it yet in case it happens afterwards. Really curious what the return ends up being, and I really do believe that moving him really knocks the legs off this team as it signals to everyone what direction this train is headed towards.

Any player can get injured in the next game they play, whether it’s in the NHL or the Olympics.

Hopefully Parekh will find his groove in the NHL right away after the WJC.
I won't lie. Part of me was greedily starting to look forward to the Flames maxing-out on the Calder candidates next season - Parekh, Gridin and '2026 Draftee'.
The important thing is that Parekh just stay injury-free and continue adapting to the NHL. Hopefully he forms a bit of chemistry with some players on the PP. It looked like he had that with both McKenna and Misa quite a bit, as they were often ready for his quick one-touch passes. It is the start of having this team a more exciting team to watch at least, that's for sure.

The WJC sure gave Parekh the confidence he needs to continue his NHL career.

Good for Pat on yesterday's Flames Talk to address how some people out there misquoted and misframed his post game comments on the Parekh stuff. Could tell he was annoyed (as he should have been)!

Yup, I'd guess that he achieved and exceeded what he and the Flames had set out as his goals for the tournament given he was just getting back from injury. Only setback was him getting re-injured, but hopefully it's a small blip and he gets healthy quickly.

They don't get that luxury - if someone wants him, get him. The gap from Andersson to the next best available rental D is significant, and if I'm Conroy, there's no chance Rasmus Andersson is still on my roster when the league shuts down.

So the opportunity of a life time playing in the Olympics for his country and the family will stay home? I think his family will be in Italy over the break. You are right though, I think that is what is probably pushing some GMs to get some of these trades done before.

You ever even been to Milan? Complete festering craphole! No way I'd subject my wife to the torturous, vile, awful place that is Italy!!
I'd save the family the trouble and suffer alone! Just have my espresso in the piazza before wine time all by myself, completely surrounded by those evil fashionista Milanese women! It would be horrible!! But I'd endure!!

Just because a player gets traded today, doesn't mean the family has to pack up and move tomorrow morning. Jesus Christ.
Some of the arguments around here can get pretty ridiculous.

It's not the physical move - just the hubbub of finding a place, finding schools, arranging relocation. It's more about leaving the spouse on her own to deal with that. It is a huge change especially for a first move. Hockey teams don't seem to help as much as other sports. It's why players traded for each other often end up swapping residences for a while.
Andersson's kids are little so school is probably not an issue.
Anyway I'm not saying it's a dealbreaker or anything. I think teams just consider these little things when dealing with timing.
