I don't have any friends.
Mostly my own fault, but still... it becomes quite apparent at Christmas.

You’re not alone, well….yes you are but you’re not the only one.
My wife cooked a huge meal for the two of us and one visiting son. I will be eating leftovers for the rest of the year.

A little bit of hard work, talent, practice, age and experience, after that its a cake-walk to be miserable all of the time! It practically becomes second-nature.

Well on the low end.
Birthday today which is the worlds worst day to have one.
A. Back to school day
B. Back to work day.
C. Crappy presnts because close to xmas
D. No one ever wants to do any thing due to nye hangover and resolutions.
I went to market mall to trade in my kids phne we upgraded from. They do all the stuff. $300 in gift card, nice, feeling productive. Go to the car wash thing and wand wash. Feeling good. Get home and somehow along the way lost the card out of my pocket.
I drive back just in case they have linked it to my apple account and can cancel it. No dice. Long shot but but no, its like cash. Go to the car wash nope. Drive home like a loser.
I lost some memory in that surgery and have become absent minded and was never that way and today was kinda scary so I'm bawling now driving home.
Anyone wants to do some target practice at my pumpkin i am game.

I have realized that I need to get some help.
I don't know what that exactly looks like or what type of help, but I have some things that need to be addressed to make life better for me and those I love.

You seem quite emotionally mature in my opinion, and like a good guy. I really hope you stop joking about self harm. Maybe you use it as an escape as a joke. But the self harm comments like that cause further problems in your mind and that is well documented. It’s not healthy for ya.

I remember from when we hung out that you work for a good company. If they have an Employee Family Assistance Program they can usually set you up to talk to people who can help with huge ranges of issues.
My company offers one and guys have used it for legal advice, therapy for drug / alcohol abuse, financial planning and a whole other ton of issues. It’s free and anonymous so you don’t have to worry about that info getting back to your boss. It’s a good place to start looking if you have access to one.
Also if you want someone to hang out with, go for a run or even a coffee you have my number still.

You win some, you luge some. I get whiny from time to time and have a tendency to catastrophize with a pinch of feeling sorry for myself.

Also cold showers.
I did the EAP a while back when I hated my boss and basically never slept.
EAP was absolutely terrible and am not at all convinced it was confidential, especially with the monster who was our HR rep. Huge liar. Talked to her and she said its totally confidential, next day the bosses tone with me changed 180 degrees and repeating things I only had told her in confidential mode.
Whatever, but the EAP nurse (or whatever she was) spent the entire "session" trying to sell me on these naturopathic supplements for it, complete with a website to order it. WTF. Actually spent money buying some of them and trying them because I am an idiot, obviously to no avail. God I was annoyed. So I started lying to the HR moron that I was still using the EAP. It was free to the employee so you can bet it will be dogcrap service.

I've heard this a lot.
The EAP is great...in theory...but usually, at least under the circumstances that I've heard of its usually the same story. The only Therapists, Doctors, etc, that qualify under the EAP are Dr. Nick Riviera and various other Bargain Bin 'Professionals.'
And yes, I have also heard that its about as confidential from your HR Department and employer as screaming your problems at clouds from the rooftop with a megaphone.

What is the bare minimum we can do for our employees but say we are doing something. How about you just save the five dollars that they must spend on this "service".

It kind of reminds me of when I was working for Greyhound.
They had to do all of the Bus repair and service in the bays so at any given time they had a minimum of 3-5 bus diesel engines idling in a confined space. Someone finally called occupational health and safety because there just wasn't enough ventilation for all of the diesel fumes.
At which point the Depot manager takes the safety guy to some store-room to show him all of the fans which meets the air CFM requirements. Sure...they're all still brand new and in the boxes but...technically, they exist. They're in a store-room in the basement somewhere and move a grand total of 0 air...but they exist!
Good enough. Box checked.

Haha. Years ago when I worked in our Red Deer shop it was similar. No issue running the diesel engines inside on the trucks and also the equipment they powered. But you had to go outside to smoke.

For what it’s worth, I ended up with my favourite therapist through my EFAP and talked to her for over a year. And her and the other I spoke with both had their own in person clinics where they charged clients… I imagine that’s common.
