It’s official now - Kathleen Kennedy is out, and Dave Filoni has creative control of Star Wars.

About damn time. Hopefully he gets to bring the franchise back from the Disney-Kennedy darkness into the light.

I don't mind Filoni as an executive producer. But as a writer/director, his track record for live action SW so far has been pretty dismal. Dude needs to stick to animation and let Jon Favreau handle the live action stuff.

Fair, but that was also Filoni under Kennedy.
Filoni now in complete control of creative, I imagine (I hope) we see a significant change.
…just be bold as hell and use the World Between Worlds to retcon the entire flippin’ Disney run to this point somehow.

I am unconvinced about Filoni 'in' but maybe Kennedy 'out' will be good enough?

Too late. Star Wars is tainted.
Even Rian Johnson who is amazing gave us a super dud.

This is like the Flames or Raiders changing regimes where I hope for the best and expect more of the same from poorly run organizations.

Cowboy hats on everything all the time!! I actually like Filoni, but I think they need to figure out how to do adult Star Wars regularly alongside their more family-oriented projects. Also figure out how to not keep contradicting everything and figure out how canon actually works for a change.

So, clicking the link, this isn't even a rumour. It's from a list of predictions for 2026.
People have been predicting this for years and it still keeps not happening.

Funny part is that I think The Last Jedi was them being bold and trying to take things is a different direction.
And it was really applauded by critics, but hated so much by the Star Wars fanbase that it's what caused them to go back down the safe and nostalgic route they've been on since.

It’s hilarious when SW nerds constantly blame Kennedy like she’s some kind of cancer who ruins everything she touches. Have there been a few duds on her watch? Sure. But she also produced Rogue One, Andor, and the Mandalorian, which are all pretty damn terrific. Andor in particular is arguably the greatest SW project since the original trilogy. Hell, even Force Awakens was an enjoyable ride for the most part.
Not to mention the rest of her filmography, which is insane: Indiana Jones trilogy, Jurassic Park, E.T., Back to the Future, Poltergeist, Gremlins, the Goonies, the Sixth Sense…and those are just some of the big ones off the top of my head.

Overall this is as good as one can reasonably hope.
We can at least have faith that leadership understands Star Wars and won't completely shatter the lore like in the Last Jedi.

Ghost Light, Avatar: The Last Airbender (the movie), War of the Worlds, Crystal Skull, Young Black Stallion, Signs, Jurassic Parks 2 and 3...
She's got just as many turds on her resume as diamonds. I do agree that perhaps she takes too much blame, however just as much as she might be attributed too much credit.
Ultimately, its probably just time for some new blood and new ideas, unfortunately I dont think Filoni is it. If they were to appoint Filoni I think that would also be a mistake.
But its all about 'who you know' I guess.

I know he doesn't want it, but Tony Gilroy should be running Star Wars. Imagine the standard that would be set for every new production.
I have no faith in Filoni to oversee quality live action projects until he proves otherwise.
Ahsoka season one was set up for success but ended up being a complete face plant. Ray Stevenson was probably its only hope.. rip.

I was shocked at how bad Ashoka was, considering that she was a labor of love by Filoni, and the character and story we got was so far removed. Sabine as a force user was a stupid decision. Ashoka was dour, when at her worst in the Cartoons she was still a wise assed optimist.
I also think though it was a mistake to make this live action, and Dawson who is not a great actress, was not physically able to do this role.
Even Thrawn was out of character compared to how Filoni had built him. I'm not saying there were too many chefs in the pot. But, you have to wonder how much script interference happened by Disney.
I mean with Obi-wan the bones of a really good story were there and it was a easy story, but there were so many just outright bad choices and stupid script moments.
I mean I loved the scenes between Anakin and Obiwan. I think Vader was suitably terrifying as young and still raging vader was. Some of the film work was brilliant Vader/Anakin with his face bathed in the bluelight of Obiwan that changed to the red of Vaders saber showing his uncertainty and recommitment to the Dark Side was breath taking. Vader torturing people in that town and lighting Ben on Fire was terrifying.
But the other decisions just dragged the series down.

Regardless of Kennedy I still maintain that Ahsoka sucks. The live action show, the cartoon character, whatever.
I have no idea what enamors people with her. She was a bad Padawan, she'd have been a crap Jedi and her moral character is highly questionable at best.
Ahsoka sucks. She is just No Good. They should make her a Sith for a bit but eventually even the Sith would get fed up with her whiny BS and kick her out and she'd spend her days evacuating moisture vaporators on some far-flung craphole.
Useless.

Still can’t believe they didn’t plan out the sequel trilogy when they had source material available.
I gave up after the disasters of Rise of Skywalker and Obi Wan. Did thankfully watch Andor after hearing the great reviews. It’s more of a sci fi spy thriller with a Star Wars skin and feels too good to be compared to the other shows.

Couple of hot takes in here. Like giving Kennedy any credit for something that Spielberg did. Or admitting that the only good thing Rian Johnson ever did, was Brick.
This year Alex kurtzman has his contract up on heading star trek, as well. I'd love for all of these franchises to get back to their sci-fi roots.

Are you insinuating that for Star Wars you want to see Filoni out, Kurtzman in and Filoni to Star Trek?
