I’d be surprised if he plays in the bronze medal game if he couldn’t even shake hands at the end of the game. Which will be a big loss for Canada since he was arguably the team MVP.

I hope the injury isn't serious. I thought he has acquitted himself very well considering that he came into the tournament cold not playing a meaningful game since early November. I'm sure the Flames are already on it but hopefully he can increase his strength in the offseason.

Do we know enough about the summer and November injuries to say that? Teams tend to say upper body or lower body.

Well, no one outside of the team knows, but it was pretty clear that the November injury was his right shoulder, and last night appeared to be his right shoulder, and there has been some talk that he wasn't yet 100% going into the tournament.

I don't like speculating on injuries either, but sometimes it looks and quacks just like a duck

I am sure nobody on the Flames is 'upset' over his comments. That's not an issue.

I think the issue is that this probably makes everyone a little worried about him. You can say the right things for 1000 interviews, but say the wrong thing once, and everyone forgets about everything else you have done. That's how I am reading this situation anyway.

As for his injury, hopefully it was nothing serious, and he is back in action today. Doubtful, especially from how he tried to stop that play on the empty net. Didn't notice him in the handshake line though. I guess we will find out soon.

That's exactly the mindset that encourages them to be robots and not accidentally say "the wrong thing"; whatever that even is.

His comments were accurate and what we all have known & said about hockey players forever. Absolutely nothing of concern.

Players choose not to sign long term deals and leave teams as free agents all the time. Do we say that all players are demanding trades by doing so, or just Tkachuk?

Well, we don't know what conversations actually took place, so let's be careful with claiming what is and isn't factually correct.

Also, Tkachuk cooperated with finding a team that he would be willing to sign with, and then agreed to a sign-and-trade. That doesn't prove that he actually 'asked' for a trade, but it certainly proves that he was a willing part of the process.

The Flames don't seem to have any issue with Cooley launching “nothing matters, nobody cares, we're all going to die" merch. Hell they even make up shirts for Andersson targeting a person in the stands and staring them down to shame them. Talk about mountains out of molehills.

It seems to be 100% fan or media generated. I don’t think the Flames management or players care about this at all.

There have been no shortage of positive quotes about how light and fun Parekh keeps things, and how that’s not to be confused with laziness or lack of interest. From both coaches and players at the World Juniors and on the Flames.

Nobody who actually knows and plays with or coaches Parekh seems to care about this at all, nor do they view his attitude poorly.

I'm sure it's nothing ... I'm certainly treating it like nothing.

But the push back in pondering if it is something is more of an over reaction than some of the over reactions in the first place in my mind.

I'm not assuming anything, but maybe the kid is cocky and needs to tone it down somewhat? I don't know.

Is he free spirited? That's great.
Is he a little big for his britches at this point in his young career? That's not good.

I'm going to happily assume this is nothing as I stated, but if he is an ego issue it could be a problem.

What is "big for his britches" for a player like this?
- he is the best offensive d man to come out of the OHL in decades.
- he lugged his team to a mem cup
- he was the top player on team Canada at the IIHF WJC, lauded for contributions on both sides of the ice by teammates and coaches.
- he may (though may not play another game) break the record for pts by a canadian dman at the tournament.

He is the most impressive prospect the flames have had since Tkachuk. More impressive than Gaudreau until Gaudreau's Beanpot season.

There are no current flames who can touch this resume, already. The Ego problem is with existing players, who have won nothing and are very likely too big for their britches. I agree that this is very similar to what we heard directly from Tkachuk/ from analysts about how he wanted to take more leadership in the room and got told to shut up. Then he led a team to a cup.

again, come on now

He knew damn well the Flames would have to move him. VERY rare for a player a year before UFA to say I'm not extending here. Even Marner said he was on the fence.

Listing his resume doesn't really answer the britches question though.

If you want to analyze his prospect ranking I'm with you.

If you want to assess that the kid isn't too cocky or potentially getting ahead of himself you haven't done it.

I have always defined cockiness as unearned confidence, while I just listed why his confidence is well-earned.

I think the Ego problem is "vets" thinking that they must know/be better and Zayne needs to abide by their "culture" or something. This would align with reports we have heard over years of time. This is the age old "country club".

Zayne's britches deserve to be pretty damn big. So, if it's a cockiness problem, by my read he would have to be OUTRAGEOUSLY overstated to reach cocky. That is not the impression I get from any report or interview about the kid.

Felt like team Canada didn’t get hemmed in their own zone as often when he was on the ice but that may have been due to favourable starts in the offensive zone.
If the puck was going on offense or on the powerplay Parekh looked great.
So much skill offensively.

Defensively that whole team, including Parekh, got caught looking at the puck and not playing sound positional defense. Absolute joke how that team of all stars ran around when they didn't have the puck.

Parekh looked slow and like he didn't care when it came to getting back on the empty net goal. Not sure he is the kind of player you can win with.

Looks to be a Shayne Gostisbehere type of 6-7 defenseman.
Maybe his ceiling is a Phil Housley or Bouchard.
Can play on the power play and when down a goal but not an all situation player.

I get that a few posters here want to be able to state any opinion without anyone questioning it but that’s a good example of why all opinions are not created equal.

Legitimately terrible take lol.
