I predict we will see something like an AHL conditioning stint here soon, perhaps a game or two back in the NHL. He may be loaned to the World Jr's team and then sent to his OHL club in the new year. The Flames can say all they want about the OHL not being the place for him at this stage of development but realistically, what else can you do? They probably won't play him 40 games this year so it does not burn a year closer to UFA status, why would you?

I suspect he will start next season in the AHL and get a few dozen games under his belt and under the guide of the Flames locally.

He will be fine but forcing this kid to play one of the hardest positions without much success does nothing for anybody. You don't need to ruin a kid's confidence or skill set just because you don't think he will benefit much playing a much bigger role elsewhere.

The 40 games isn’t games played it’s games on the roster so they will have to keep that in mind

And if a player is on the IR or in the AHL on a conditioning loan, he is still considered to be on the NHL roster.

If he were loaned to Team Canada, the games missed during that time wouldn't count against the 40. The Flames' 40th game this season is the New Year's Eve game. Releasing him to the World Juniors would extend the window by about 7 or 8 games. It would make the final decision point during the home stand in late January.

Zayne needs to watch some old TJ Brodie tape and figure out a way to slip these hits, or it won’t matter how talented he is.

He has some ridiculous natural talent. We need to let him be creative and know some mistakes will come. Some nights they will cost us and other nights he’ll be brilliant and win it for us

More from Zayne:

https://twitter.com/user/status/2007096724549190011

Flames need to do a better job with him, and also probably emphasizes how brutal the start of the season was in and around the team with the expectations vs. the poor start.

Flames have to get better at handling, and embracing younger players who haven’t been pushed through the system for years of development. Which is fair, Zayne is the first one since Tkachuk to do it, but it’s a young league and so as much as it’s “Zayne has to be better”, the organization needs to learn how to onboard and embrace true young players unseasoned by the Wranglers etc.

There’s lessons in how defeated/down Zayne very openly admits to feeling - and damn good on him for answering questions in his own, unfiltered words.

This organization struggles to let skill players develop without forcing them to be responsible at all costs. Gaudreau is maybe the lone exception in a long time. It will be interesting to see how that plays out with Zayne.

Parekh will get all the opportunity he can handle when Andersson gets traded. Hopefully he takes it and runs

I can't see any glaring examples of mistakes made with him.

He's an offensive player, that was starting his NHL career with a team that couldn't score a goal to save their lives. That meant no points. And that meant eroding confidence.

They could have sent him back to juniors if they knew they'd suck in the first quarter, but not sure they would have predicted that.

Imagine if Parekh was on the team in the last 20 games? He's likely have 10 points and be well on his way.

Zayne is at his best when he top dog playing heavy minutes. For this reason, I wouldn't be opposed to sending him back to Junior, letting his go on a Memorial Cup run, and then starting him on the Wranglers next season.

You lose out on some of the technical development he'd get playing in the NHL this year, but you bring along his mental game slowly so that he is playing 25 minutes a night by the end of next season.

Not really sure how the Flames could do a better job developing him, he should have been playing in the AHL this year, which unfortunately he is not allowed, that isn't the Flames fault.

Offensively he is completely ready.

Defensively he needs a lot of work. He doesn't read gaps and dangerous situations effectively at this point.

Too much flying stick check the second the puck turns over, and not a read on how many are coming and what would happen if the stick check fails.

He'll get there though.

The easy stuff is left to learn. He has the elite stuff down.

Because he plays D like a rover (think a miniature Brent Burns), he needs a D partner who can adapt to Zayne’s style of play. I’d hate to see his offensive play neutered to make his defensive play more ‘responsible’.

I think he's widely talented as shown over the holdays in the world juniors but those wrist shots are not beating most NHL goaltenders. Flames will have to have patience with him and resist the temptation to force him into a style of play he's not suited for.

Man I effing cannot WAIT till it clicks for Zayne in the NHL.
Think 10 years of how he’s playing in the worlds right now except on our team.

Bar down through screens play pretty well in every league IMO.
