I'm using this MSI X870 Gaming one: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00131938

Price seemed to be quite good for a X870 board and good features, probably the only thing I wish it had was one more m.2 slot. There's a B850 board that has that: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00132423 but I'm not sure on the PCIe lanes split and that's something to watch.

There's other B850 boards in the $200 range but for the extra I just went with the X870 one.

So far it's been stable.

I don't really know what features I'd really need. I just want something that will make best possible use of this processor and whatever graphics card I'll wind up paying far too much for.
ASRock Taichi keeps coming up but really don't want to pay $500 for a MOBO. I think really any x870 board would be ok?

I've been using the MSI X870 Tomahawk (https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00131040) with my 9800X3D and I've not had any major issues. Everything has been extremely stable. I'm using PICE 5.0 as I have a 5090 thrown in there and I've overclocked my memory by enabling EXPO. Everything has been going smoothly.

The only minor issue has been with the tool FanControl in that MSI changed something with how the board monitors fans and FanControl has issues with that. It may have already been fixed though.

Also using an X870 but a Gigabyte Aorus Elite with my 9800X3D. No issues so far 6-7 months on.

4TB m.2 drive back down to $380. Too bad it has a heatsink.

Rumors are that Nvidia and AMD GPU prices are going to be pushing higher in the coming days. ($5000?!?)

Yeah was seeing that... Maybe we're going to enter a phase in PC where things are generally static almost like console generations. Maybe that would be good and devs can improve their existing engines and processes and put effort into other areas to improve games rather than pushing the bleeding edge.

My previous system had an MSI Tomahawk board and it was also solid. After previous builds with Gigabyte and ASUS had lots of motherboard issues was have been happy with MSI, though those previous builds were both with brand new platforms so I think a lot of stuff was due to the newness and issues were resolved with BIOS updates over time.

Maybe now is the time to buy some intel stock...

ASUS officially announces price hikes from January 5, right before CES 2026

Just bit the bullet on an ASUS Prime RTX 5070Ti. I had wanted to do a full PC build later this year, but the RAM price jumps screwed me and I didn't want the same thing to happen with GPUs. $1090 is likely the cheapest that card is going to be for the foreseeable future

Now I'm just wondering how much of a bottleneck my Ryzen 5 3600 is going to be. I've only got a 1440p monitor though so hopefully I can squeeze another year or two out of it before going for a full mb/cpu/ram replacement

Thanks. My brother is looking for a new GPU and I showed him this so he's going to pull the trigger this weekend. It's just a 9070xt but it's a big jump up from his 1080.

There's a small bottleneck so you are good for now. Too bad you can't get a 5800X3D for less than an AM5 upgrade.

If there is a bottleneck I can't notice it. Finally gave Cyberpunk a spin, all settings on Ultra, Path Tracing, DLSS Balanced, and 2x Frame Gen. FPS is locked at 60 and it never dips, I'm quite happy. First GPU upgrade in 10 years, the 1080 finally gets retired

Now that I have a real gaming rig again I want to get a proper monitor, like the Asus ROG Swift. If only it wasn't as expensive as the GPU+Case+PSU that I just bought

Just bought the same card. Man, that's the most I've ever spent on a GPU. However, my current GPU must be pushing a decade old so that performance improvement will be noticeable I'm sure.

All the expensive stuff is done, just need a PSU & case.

Can't wait to try out the new CPU and GPU.

750W is recommended for the 5070ti, but I went with a Corsair 850W just for a little extra headroom. And I grabbed a Fractal North case since I'm not into RGB crap at all and this thing is gorgeous

Given the size of video cards (5090) and their cabling these days, nothing short of a fully operational battle station sized case is good enough now.

Well, seems like nothing good or new for the LG 42's. No tandem. Oh well.

Speaking of which, great deal on the C5 42! "Just" $900 - wild.

It's showing $1200 for me. It's also out of stock so maybe it was a mistake.

It doesn't show up unless you added it to the cart. I tried it myself and it worked at the time.

"Additional member savings in cart"

It could come back though, the price cut was due to CES starting.

EDIT: I don't if it would be the same in store but it couldn't hurt to call around if you wanted it.
