The first rat to leave a sinking ship. Why delay the departure until May?

My first thought was she knows when Busboobs is going to call the election and she’s staying on until the last minute.

Busboobs gave herself an extra few months of governing by arguing spring elections can't happen because we have forest fires. So she'd look like a real moron if she calls a spring election...

But by delaying until May, it prevents the need for a by-election before a fall election(6 month window) so that could be the reason.

The government plans on cleaning up the trail system in Canmore:

Quote:
The Alberta government is proposing a major overhaul of the Bow Valley’s trail network.

For decades, many trails around Canmore have been built informally by hikers and mountain bikers. These paths, also called “pirate trails”, were never planned or reviewed for their impact on wildlife.

Bill Hunt, a conservationist with the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative (Y2Y), says for every official trail in the Bow Valley, there are two unofficial ones.

Now, the province wants to change that, which means some familiar local paths might disappear .

Peggy Holroyd, planning lead for the Kananaskis region for Alberta Parks, says the project has been decades in the making.

“It’s the first integrated trail system plan for Crown land in the Bow Valley,” she said.

Research shows trail use by people affects wildlife more than previously thought.

Gareth Thomson with the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley says it’s not only the trail itself that animals avoid.

“If there's people using a trail, animals like wolves and bears tend to avoid not just the trail, but areas within roughly half a kilometre of it,” he said. “That wider ‘zone of influence’ is a relatively new finding.”

With so many unofficial trails crisscrossing the valley, the areas that wildlife can comfortably use has shrunk.

I think the animal excuse is frankly hilarious, given the difference in impact between a trail and a golf course and resort. They've been closing trails like this for years once the golf course impact shows up. Time for another round, I guess.

Thanks for the effort.

So you're saying the experts/researchers on the ecosystem are full of ####? That's an interesting take.

I mean, have you listened to the kind of stuff these people have gone on about? Selenium leeching in the water is harmful for fish, farms, and ecosystems. Tanker traffic in coastal waters negatively affects marine life and ecosystems. Tailings ponds are bad for everything, particularly ecosystems.

Are you saying these "experts" and "researchers" are worth listening to?

No he’s saying get rid of the golf course and housing expansion to protect animals corridors while keeping the hiking trails

Schulz quit so she can work on Kenney's leadership campaign. Poilievre is about to get turfed on his home ice.

Why not both? The experts are saying the pirate trails are ####ing up the animals and their habitats but we shouldn't bother doing anything because of golf. That logic is akin to global warming denialists advocating for Canada to do nothing about emissions because China is worse.

They aren't talking about shutting down any golf courses. I assumed that bit was obvious, but I guess it needs to be mentioned.

Well it's nice to see you standing up to the experts and downplaying the need to modify human impact in this situation.

I would be supportive of long term planning to create animal corridors at the expense of human activity and development. I tend to to agree it’s bull#### that public spaces near the brunt of conservation after private spaces drove much of the problem.

In general I’m supportive of things like closing the Macarthet lake trail from ohara to Rockwell to reduce impact and move people onto otter tail pass. I wouldn’t be supportive of closing trails when alternatives to eliminating other private impact have not been explored. That doesn’t mean they have to do them but part of any impact study should consider all impacts.

Are you getting petitions ready to shut down golf courses around Canmore?

It's really a struggle for you, eh? Is it a reading comprehension thing? Or is it you are a visual learner and need me to draw a picture of a golf fairway to scale with a hiking trail? Would that help you understand? Or is this just another flaccid dunk attempt? So many options.

More golf courses and trails is my preference. The animals will figure it out.

I'm afraid to ask, but is there some level of intel behind this statement or is this just a prediction/hope?
