Have to wonder what the price is at this point for Conroy to trade either Kadri or Coleman. I believe the insiders that say he’s listening to offers on those players but his asking price is high.

For example, is the return that the Islanders got last year for Nelson enough to trade Kadri? How much more of a return would it need to be for Conroy to trade Kadri?

Similar with Coleman. Does it need to be equivalent to a 1st round pick + 2nd round pick? Maybe more?

I’m assuming the asking prices will be so high at this point that it’s unlikely any team will pay up for either player.

Need a team to step up with a good rental package and put some heat on the low ball teams, and if they don’t up their offers, he goes as a rental
So he goes as a rental, then those teams can perhaps get him for free as a UFA.

If Conroy's asking price is to high, he really doesn't want to move them.

I doubt their trade value will ever be higher.

I’m assuming that to be the case. That it will take a huge overpay to motivate Conroy to trade either of those players. His motivation to trade Kadri/Coleman is probably lower than ever.

I think teams would have to offer what is widely considered an untouchable prospect to get Conroy interested. So look at any team and consider their best prospect as the starting point of a trade for Kadri (eg. Hage for Montreal). That likely kills any deal right off the bat.

Which is exactly why we wanted this team to lose. To force their hands and have players ask out. Hoping I am wrong but feels like another wasted year

I get the idea of ownership wanting that playoff revenue, it just seems to be a continuation of the same philosophy of prioritizing short term playoff gain over long term championships vision.

Do the majority of fans out support this mediocrity, would rather suffer for a few years, if it meant a better shot at a championship, I would think most fans are on the same wavelength, no?

The only hope is that those cheering to make the playoffs again, will eventually wake up to the fact that it gets us nowhere. A few more bucks for Edwards, a poorer draft choice and another year of mediocrity. Same old, same old!

Ultimately, I want Calgary to win. I'm not necessarily concerned about the names on the roster who can do it, so long as they can produce results and be competitive in the playoffs over a respectful window. If that is done by the current core of players than so be it. But if staying the course results in mediocrity and playoff bubbles at a time where it seems obvious to a large faction of an audience that a (insert word for rebuild here) is necessary to better achieve those goals, it seems this year in particular by contrast to others will be deemed quite a failure of the organization.

All the casual “flames fans” I know are talking about mckenna and not wanting to win. Season ticket holder friends want a star and continued success. There are however a vocal number on here who think cheering to tank makes us bad fans. It’s exhausting. We all want a cup, some of us just see short term pain as a better approach than the same old from the last 20 years.

I have a pal who is a rabid Flames fan, and doesn’t read any forums etc and only the odd article about the team. What does he want? Playoffs. Couldn’t care less about tanking or long-term strategy. Suspect that is more the norm for non-CP-addicted fans.

I assume its unrealistically high, and probably by design.

Being so close to playoffs, I doubt theres much appetite in that management group to trade them now.

Many of us can clamour that we need a rebuild, that this team can't seriously compete and we need to focus on building for a couple years from now.

I seriously doubt the collective of upper management sees it the same way.
They want to compete now and they aant to compete later. If this team is close to playoffs,I doubt theyre moving key guys under contract for almost anything.

Which in my opinion is a folly

That hasn't been my "real world" experience.

Most fans i know want the Flames to rebuild. Everyone knows we have no exciting stars and we're not seriously competitive team.

The really casual fans, who dont know the player contracts etc..., cant identity who our star player is even supposed to be and know the Flames suck because we lost the household names in Johny and Matt, and havnt made playoffs in years. Its even more highlighted by the turd up north having McDavid and going back to back finals, as most of these casuals will cheer for whichever alberta team is doing good.

What is exhausting is the same complaining in all threads.
I think the reality is
- Most of us understand that a higher pick will ultimately be better for the franchise long-term, and would be willing to experience short-term pain.
- Which is why a lot of folks take the approach of cheering for wins during games, but being ok with losses

Where there is disagreement is
- Disputing that this is the "same old from the last 20 years". Maybe the team isn't going as far as you want, but they are taking a different approach in many ways. Hauling around the 20 year baggage is lazy and not additive. Most of us have been fans for a long time. We all know about the lack of success.
- Disagreeing over if the team should trade off quality players, including at lower prices, to maximize the placement of the pick. This includes, disputing the notion that moving Kadri, Andersson and Coleman would somehow guarantee a high pick. That's not the case. The value of moving them earlier is the increase in probability of the pick being x spots higher v. the returns that you can get now v. later.
- I think many will agree that if they only move Andersson this season it will be disappointing in some ways.

This is the big one though: a lot of us accept that we can't control the decisions of the franchise. So we can choose to enjoy being fans and following the team, or we can choose to wallow in constant misery across every thread and discussion.

I choose the former.

No one here is against a high pick. Many think it’s coming no matter what is done. No one said anyone is a “bad fan” - you can’t find a single post that says that, I bet.

What people are tired of is the continual whining every time the Flames win a game. That’s what’s exhausting. No team loses every game. And it’s also tiring to see the hair on fire posts every time management complements Kadri or Andersson because that means they will never be traded. Calgary has done nothing to improve the team’s “short term gain” of just making the POs. Despite having picks, prospects and cap room to exploit if that was the goal.

If CC gets the Nelson offer for Kadri guessing he would take it. You aren’t getting a 1st and 2nd for Coleman. Just being realistic.

The biggest return would come from a team exiting their rebuild who sees a hole in their lineup. But even those teams will be reluctant to part with stud prospects.
Anaheim has Mintyukov who isn’t happy with ice time, and a big hole on the right side. They could at least have Andersson with Joe Q for half a season. I actually think Andersson with a top tier coach would unlock a whole new level out of him.

Mintyukov + 2026/2027 1st (playoff protected, if Ducks miss playoffs, pick slides to 2027, top 5 protected).

*compliments.

If the team complemented Kadri or Andersson, I think lots of people would be (rightly in my opinion) upset…
