Ox Bar de Tapas is a popular choice on 17th Ave, offering a variety of small plates and a welcoming Spanish atmosphere. Another option is Las Canarias, known for its authentic Spanish cuisine and vibrant ambiance.

I went to Luca tonight for my birthday. Fata me it was good.
I usually do not normally care for seafood much unless its Vancouver or somewhere coastal. Calgary usually dissapoints. Had a sablefish dish. It was a saffron based sauce. Was ridiculous.
Also, it is way better to sit at the bar, i screwed up the reservation. Its great especially with just two people. Way better. Its like a show and you can chat to the bartender and get insight.
My wife was a chef who worked at River Cafe and Ratatouille is my favorite movie. Great place where the kitchen and bar are together in an island in the middle, cannot wait to go back.

Went to IBU last night with some buddies, great contemporary Indonesian food in Marda Loop, recently opened by a father/son duo who have worked in high-end restos across SE Asia. Highly recommend!

Any recommendations for a good-great upscale Mexican restaurant in Calgary? I doubt it exists in western Canada, but something akin to Topolobampo would be amazing.

I am super fussy. My wife abolutely hates it. When i told her white people should not be allowed to make stir fry. The comment served its purpose and i no longer get that stir fry. In troublefor a few days.
Bouguignon at Cassis.
Saffron Sablefish at Luca.
Two top things in Calgary.
Everything else is garbage.
What are other peoples Calgary top things?

Upscale Mexican food is garbage. The best Mexican comes from hole in the wall type restaurants, street carts/food trucks or a cooler in someone's trunk at a Walmart parking lot.

For those who will miss Moose and Poncho, the team will still be taking corporate and private events, as well as hosting cooking classes.

The "closest" you will get to that in Calgary is probably Fortunas Row, which is more Latin American than Mexican specific. I personally like it a lot.
Milpa isn't upscale but mid-level. I really enjoy it (does mexican seafood well) but i know some people don't love it.
