we all know there are 3 true snubs
https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/edmont...anada-s-roster
though Staples will still be cheering for Canada despite the ' bad joke' of omitting Hyman
https://edmontonjournal.com/sports/h...-boston-bruins
(earlier in the week he said Team Canada would have 'rocks in their head' if they didn't take the full line of Hyman, McD, Nuge, a 'line' so good that it gets broken up (if it was ever together) by the 3rd period of any tied or trailing game

Big Bennett fan. But he’s played a ton of hockey lately. And Wilson is flying.

More than that, Bennett is teammates with Tkachuk. They’re going for a three peat after this over.
So far as I can see, Tom Wilson is on this team for one reason - keep Matt Tkachuk under control. Wilson is not going to show Matt Tkachuk an ounce of mercy.
Sam Bennett might, so you take Wilson.

Maybe but those stats beat Bennett's best year by 20 points. Not that Geekie has had those actual stats before. He's also a 50 point guy prior to now. I guess the question about him is whether this is a freak year or a product of finally being given a top role.

That's a big reason. But Wilson's 21 goals/40 points in 39 games are a part of it too.

Is it though? Remind me again, are the Russians any good at the 'Ice Hockey?'
You took one of the Top 3 Best teams in the World out. Is it really still 'Best-on-Best?' Or just 'Best-on-Best available?'

You can always debate this player over that player, but what concerns me is the age of the team. There are only 2 players under the age of 26, Hanley (24) and Celebrini. Two concerns:
1) teams that lack youth often have trouble generating energy
2) there will be other Olympics after this one, and part of the process is getting some young guys there, in order to gain experience so they are ready to lead next time.
IMO, there is room on the roster for Bedard and Schaufer - and maybe even Geekie

The Soviets haven’t medaled at an Olympics with NHL players since 2002.

I dont think theres really any need for that.
Olympic hockey just really isnt as great as people are making it out to be.
How much damage do you think France, Italy, Latvia, Germany and Denmark going to do?
Its like a 4, maybe 5 team competition. 3 of them are going to get medals.

As opposed to the World Cup of soccer, which is totally 64 countries with a damn near even shot at the title.

Totally agree. The two that stick out for me, due to age are Stone & Doughty.
Question for those who are familiar with Cirelli's play.. is he a shut down guy? Trying to understand his selection.

Suzuki is a great player, dismissing him as soft and undersized is stupid. I still think Bennett should be on the team, especially over Horvat

Geekie is 27 so doesn't really fit the young narrative, plus it's his first season ever on ppg pace. Think there would be other subs like Johnston that would be much more deserving

I think the usual process will be to get these guys into other tournaments between Olympics (4 Nations etc). Or the World Cup back in the day.
I think Bedard would be there but for the injury. Schaefer - I just don't think they figure an 18 year old is ready.

The other question about Geekie is, is he a center, and does Canada need him to play C? I think he mostly plays with Lindholm as his center, and Pasta/Steeves on the wing.

It’s helpful, but he’s the one PPG forward you’re comfortable sacrificing for the balance of a game if it gets Matt Tkachuk out of there as well.

Well...of course not, considering the Soviet Union fell in 1991. They werent even around in 2002.
Thats like saying that Czechoslovakia isn't even trying anymore.
