I'm using this MSI X870 Gaming one: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00131938

Price seemed to be quite good for a X870 board and good features, probably the only thing I wish it had was one more m.2 slot. There's a B850 board that has that: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00132423 but I'm not sure on the PCIe lanes split and that's something to watch.

There's other B850 boards in the $200 range but for the extra I just went with the X870 one.

So far it's been stable.

I don't really know what features I'd really need. I just want something that will make best possible use of this processor and whatever graphics card I'll wind up paying far too much for.
ASRock Taichi keeps coming up but really don't want to pay $500 for a MOBO. I think really any x870 board would be ok?

I've been using the MSI X870 Tomahawk (https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00131040) with my 9800X3D and I've not had any major issues. Everything has been extremely stable. I'm using PICE 5.0 as I have a 5090 thrown in there and I've overclocked my memory by enabling EXPO. Everything has been going smoothly.

The only minor issue has been with the tool FanControl in that MSI changed something with how the board monitors fans and FanControl has issues with that. It may have already been fixed though.

Also using an X870 but a Gigabyte Aorus Elite with my 9800X3D. No issues so far 6-7 months on.

4TB m.2 drive back down to $380. Too bad it has a heatsink.

Rumors are that Nvidia and AMD GPU prices are going to be pushing higher in the coming days. ($5000?!?)

Yeah was seeing that... Maybe we're going to enter a phase in PC where things are generally static almost like console generations. Maybe that would be good and devs can improve their existing engines and processes and put effort into other areas to improve games rather than pushing the bleeding edge.

My previous system had an MSI Tomahawk board and it was also solid. After previous builds with Gigabyte and ASUS had lots of motherboard issues was have been happy with MSI, though those previous builds were both with brand new platforms so I think a lot of stuff was due to the newness and issues were resolved with BIOS updates over time.
