I love Elizabeth Zharoff. She combines expert vocal analysis with child-like wonder and a goofy personality. Here she takes on Rocky Horror Picture Show - the full movie - analyzing all the performances including the disembodied lips in the opening credits, and along the way gets her seemingly sheltered world rocked a few times. A fun watch of you haven't seen the movie for a while, though I did need to skip through parts - it's 3 hours long.
Seriously, go put this on in the background while you're doing whatever around the house and you'll be in a much better mood. The music is astonishingly good.

Tommy Stinson played with The Mountain Goats on Colbert. Wurster's drumming is so good on this.
WTF was this? I usually hate your music recommendations for the most part, lol. I opened this video with an "I guess I'll open it and get my weekly disappointment fix from DowninFlames" That was incredible. The drums, the writing, the energy, the topic in the song. All brilliant and I'm hooked. I'll check out more from these guys.

They're a great band, especially live. Unfortunately they don't come to Canada often.
John Darnielle is an accomplished writer, and not just of music. He has several books worth checking out.
This song is usually considered their highlight, maybe even a masterpiece. It deals with his substance abuse issues when he was younger, which explain why coming here is an issue.

I know, this isn't very Christmasy, but here it is anyway. This might be my favorite Strokes song other than Reptilia (which is a modern classic). The lyrics might seem pithy, but I find them to be compelling.

Been listening to them a lot since I saw your Late Show post. Incredible band.
Lulu is hard to describe. Did Lou Reed choose to collaborate with Metallica because he respected their musicianship or did he anticipate their backing tracks to clash with his poetry to create a discordant mess? Did Metallica agree to work with him just because he's a legend or did they think their style could mesh with his in a way that is greater than the sum of their parts? Lots of people think it's awful but I've seen some call it genius, mostly Reed superfans. I'm still on the fence.
