If Conroy trades the Flames leading scorer and top five most popular player for KK and a late 1st he will be run out of town by the actual fanbase. I think we’ve lost touch with reality if we think Flames will do that under the current circumstances. Blake likes it here and wants to be here, and has not asked for a trade.
As an arm chair GM I like that package as the basis for a trade, but I measure these things in vacuum that doesn’t include casual fans and the business of the team.
We’re more like Ultras. We feel we are entitled to something (we’re not) and that the Flames owe us something more than entertainment (they don’t). It’s just a commercial product that they are offering take it or leave it.

I wouldn’t know if you were one way or the other. I don’t ever understand your gifs and they’re seldom if ever revisited to clarify them in hindsight. I just assume you have legit info that you can’t share so post gifs that make sense to you but to which nobody otherwise could piece together, and get a chuckle at contributors reading and reacting to them.
It makes for entertaining viewing and seems to bring joy to many on here trying to decipher. It also upsets people who don’t yet realize negativity is their passion.
Keep up the good work. Your contributions add value, are fun, and cause reaction in varying forms. Mostly positive.

I'm not saying this is the right deal, but if a good offer comes in from a team not on Coleman's no trade list, he should be dealt. He is too old to be useful once this team's future stars (hopefully) mature around the end of the decade.
I'm not sure why anyone with a realistic grasp on this team's future would run him out of town for a trade with a first coming back.

I still think coleman gets shipped. They'll get a great offer and pull the trigger. I think it's entirely possible that Conny gets fooled by the illusion of playoffs, but I do think he understands the natural churn of the roster. You can't draft multiple first rounders every year without clearing some old growth. The plane is overbooked as it is.

If the Flames are close to playoffs come the trade deadline, I bet management views this as a legit payoff team, given how close they came last year as well.
I doubt theyre selling Coleman in that case with 2 years left, even if someone offers a lage 1st.
if they close the gap even further between now and the deadline theres almost 0% chance they trade Coleman. It's just not what this organization does.
Coleman and kadri should be dealt, but this management group is not just looking to compete 3 years from now. They're looking to compete now if they can. Even if that's just for a waste if 8 days.

I’ve got no “new” news at this point.
But it would be hard to argue that the Flames seemingly doing Flames things and propelling themselves into mushy middle territory sets us back to the same fears we have every year.
Rasmus - No impact, both sides far apart
Coleman - Highest value we will likely see. Lots of interest but does Calgary move him if they keep winning? Personal opinion is unlikely, but I’ve asked.
Kadri - See Coleman, high value/lots of interest… but winning and his desire to stay here make me wonder… especially if CGY keeps on winning.
Personally I’d prefer we trade anyone if value is given and we can rebiggle with younger assets and picks…but Maloney Madness scares me from a fan perspective. This team doesn’t need to keep up the mushy middle projection yet again.
I’d like to see us take a card from Vancouver and make the trades and if we win then so be it as we have the younger assets.

I fear you may be correct. But I do think a growing minority of actual fanbase share our frustration with where this season is heading. It is hard to get excited to watch a PP1 with Weegs, Kadri, Coles, Huby and Sharkey (all well over 30 except Sharkey).
From my vantage point the stands already look more empty than in the past and that's with one of the lowest ticket prices in the league.

I mean the Jets think they have the pieces to win a cup, I doubt they blow it up. The Blackhawks were fine until they lost their top 2 centers, any team would struggle with those injuries.
Every teams situation is a bit different. In theory it would have been easy to trade vets when we were last place in the league by a good margin. But now that we are 3 points out of 7th place in the west, I doubt we blow it up.

The stands will be full for the two home playoff dates, or at least that's what Edwards and Maloney are hoping for.

Well nobody has made trades plural, one team made a trade when their franchise player made it clear that he did not want to play there anymore. Have to wait and see what happens.

I don't really understand the "mushy middle" sentiment and hopefully management doesn't think we are in the middle of the pack. League-wide we are 5th worst in point percentage, despite going 7-3 in our last 10.
I understand we are 1 point out of a wildcard but I hope Conroy is smarter than what we've seen in the past. Big Picture

You're right, there aren't a bunch of trades happening around the league.
I was more just saying, if we were still in last place by a margin like we were at the beginning of the year, it is much easier to trade the vets and put them on the market. As of right now, we are a few wins away from a playoff spot, or a few losses from last place.
It is really hard to see the Flames ownership approving a trade for Kadri and Coleman, if we are right in the mix battling for a playoff spot. I just don't know how often a team that is a few points out and has been one of the better teams in the league for 2 months straight blows it up. Does that ever happen?

I doubt anyone but Andersson is getting traded this year unless things completely fall apart in the second half of the season. My guess is Andersson gets traded at the deadline when they can’t agree on terms for a new contract.

Well it needs to happen here if the goal is a competitive product in 2027 when the new arena opens. I have seen enough of Parekh and Wolf to know they are big pieces. The goal is quite clear, add some highly skilled forwards through the draft to round out the core. But not all hit so let's draft as many as we can. Anything less is so short sighted. Conroy and the scouting staff appear to be above average in assessing prospects. That is our edge. Stick with it by selling high on vets and keep stockpiling our prospect pool.

Just deal the assets.. Personally I lean towards team tank but if we instead turn into the 2022-23 Predators that traded Granlund, Ekholm, Niederreiter and Jeannot, then we sneak back into the playoffs the following year with a younger roster so be it! Would not be upset in the least. Just wise asset management... Please

It just means the offers have to be undeniable. I think it's unlikely but still possible.
I think if a trade does happen now it won't be seen as a "fair" trade, because I don't think they will move Coleman or Kadri for a fair return.
I think now if a trade were to happen it has to be for trade that looks like an undeniable win for the Flames.
Which is unlikely because GMs rarely get that desperate, but it's possible.
In terms of being one of the best teams since November 1st...that feels a little generous due to the easier schedule, and the underlying's aren't elite, just pretty mid still.
Since November 1st:
Point Percentage: 9th - .593 (97 point pace over an 82 game season)
5v5 GF%: 48.0% - 18th
5v5 xGF%: 50.2% - 14th
All Situation GF: - 51.0 - 11th
All Situation xGF: 50.3% - 13th
So they pretty much are just back on the pace of a Wild Card team in a normal season (97 points) but the NHL has been so mediocre, especially the west, that the 8th seed is currently on pace for 86 points, so it's allowed the Flames to get into the race just because the pace is so slow.
If it was still at a normal playoff pace (94 points) the Flames would still need to play at a .651 clip the rest of the season to get to that pace and we likely aren't talking about how close they are to the playoffs.
But with the current pace being like 87 points - that makes it look like a much more manageable pace to get into the playoffs since it's only a .570 pace to get into the playoffs.
The problem being the bad start still makes the most likely outcome that they finish without a top 5 pick, and not in the playoffs.

I'm not saying they shouldn't make these trades, I think it clearly needs to happen. I just don't see Maloney and Edwards doing the right thing, so I am lowering my expectations with us being in the mix for playoffs now.
If they trade the vets great, and if they don't then I won't be as outraged because I have set my bar low lol.

If Coleman doesn’t want to be traded then he won’t be. Kadri still has an outside chance of going with his protection even if he doesn’t want to

There is nothing new because teams are still not putting serious offers on the table yet that would make Conroy pull the trigger. People need to stop worrying about Conroy not willing to make a trade because we are only 3 points out of a playoff spot. I said before that this season is different and nothing has changed in that regard, the focus is still on the future.
Conroy has drummed up more pressure on teams interested in Andersson by leaking to pro insiders that they want that deal done before the Olympic break. Basically start coming with your trade deadline best offers now or someone else will and you will miss out.as for not shopping Kadri and Coleman it's part of the process, teams are calling about them and Conroy is listening, he doesn't need to shop those guys. If he thinks an offer improves the team in the future, is fair value, and the player he is dealing will have a chance to succeed and be happy going there he will not hesitate to pull the trigger. Right now teams are still just poking around, the best offers for those two players are going to come as we get close to the trade deadline. There is zero pressure for Conroy to move either Coleman or Kadri, both guys are happy to stay if it works out that way.
Relax, take a breath, it's going to be ok.
