I don't watch the oilers when they aren't playing the flames. But I feel 100% certainty saying that the refs have handed them many wins in the mcdavid era against the flames with 5+ piddly little stick check penalties when they have no momentum or right winning at even strength

2022 showed that doesn’t work. The refs always make it an oilers powerplay or 4 on 4 at best

The big difference is that the Oiles score on their PP, the Flames not so much.
