If they treat his NTC like a NMC then he has the control. My main point is with a 13 team NTC there will be a couple teams that will be interested and he can’t block. That’s all that is really needed.
How do you know this?

You get Michkov to be a player you pair with Coronato, not swap for eachother.

Thinking out the Kadri NTL a bit more... it would likely take a real surprise team to put in an offer for his services.

Like if the Sharks put in a monster offer to the Flames for Andersson with an extension and Kadri with 50% retention.

I highly doubt Kadri would have the Sharks on his NTL because of their C depth. But if they are feeling feisty and really wanting to hit the playoffs this year, getting Andersson is an obvious need but adding Kadri gives them a cup winning vet who can take over the second line from Wennberg.

Kadri at $3.5M could easily slide to 3rd line by the end of his contract when Celebrini, Smith, and Askarov need to get paid and never really be an anchor on their cap structure.

And he wouldn't get frustrated in Calgary?

So retain about 12m+ in salary? Better be getting a couple extra 1st round picks for that.

Nice goal by backs and a great save by Cooley.

18/31 teams (58%). Odds are in our favor that he can be moved. Better than an NMC or few teams he'd be willing to be dealt to.

Except 31 teams wouldn't be interested in him.

No, but do you realize what the odds would be of him correctly choosing the 13 teams that would want him?

Before the season started?

It is extremely likely that there would be at least a few teams that would be interested, and aren't on his no trade list.

I admit this year it might be likely he would guess wrong because there's a lot more teams in the mix. But that said, I think he could really limit it. And one of the likeliest teams just took themselves out by choosing a lesser option.

It seems like a stretch that he would even adopt the strategy you are suggesting in the first place. If it were me, I would be more concerned with choosing the cities I don't want to go to, than trying to outsmart the market and guessing which teams would be interested in me.

Well, we know he had Calgary on his list when he was in Toronto because he didn't want to be traded and he thought they were a likely trade partner, and he made it clear it wasn't because he didn't want to live in Calgary. He didn't have the Avs because he thought they were set at centre.

And it's not so much about where to live as opposed to having control over your destiny.

Again, even if that were his strategy - and his only strategy (which I highly doubt) - getting all 13 right is virtually impossible, statistically

Why? You can eliminate a whole bunch of teams that are rebuilding, have two good centres, can't afford him even at 50% and/or Edmonton. Then you put the rest on the list. I bet I could come up with 18 teams who wouldn't be trade partners.

Plus a lot of the teams who would want him overlap with where he probably doesn't want to go.

So how big was his no trade list then? Not big enough apparently, the trade to Denver came together very quickly IIRC.

In any case, I’m not too worried. If Flames want to trade him, they will find some suitors of the 18 teams not on his list.

He could safely leave off Penguins, Sharks, Kraken, Blackhawks, Ducks, Penguins, Oilers, Stars, Mammoth, Canes, VGK, Panthers, Devils, Bruins,TBL, Sens, Avs, Leafs, Rangers. That’s 19 teams.
