Be pedantic all you want, but Friedman is saying that his value has changed (probably negatively) since last season due to contract status.
Does rasmus have enough cache for a team to shell out or will they prefer cheaper options like Faulk? Same question applies to Kadri, and Montreal just showed us they prefer the latter.

If no team offered it up he wasn’t worth more. That’s the very definition of market value.

Kadri is older, more expensive and more importantly his contact runs 2 yrs longer. Danault is just a cheaper option, not the better player.
Andersson value is hard to judge. He is a good , not great dman that you’d overpay for. Is he worth the extension that he is asking? At the end of the day, his value may just be a rental which is probably a low 1st and a B prospect. Conroy hold on to Hanifin and got robbed , Andersson is not better than him.
I hope Conroy is holding for more value not because he delusional thinking they can win.

Some are fearful that the Flames will hold on to Andersson right up to the deadline, I really hope that is not the case.
I also think Coleman has a real good shot of being moved. That might be at the deadline though. Kadri I think is less likely. I’d say the Habs landing Denault signals that, unfortunately. Seems like that could have been a great fit but I think it’s also fair to surmise the Hans didn’t want to pay what the Flames would have wanted. Or maybe the Habs don’t like Kadri's term with Hage coming. Who knows?
|
If everything that has been said about a potential Andersson trade is true and Conroy has a price it seems like an Andersson trade is in the rest of the league’s hands. Why would Conroy drop his asking price when he doesn’t have too. Seems like he has all of the leverage right now. He actually loses leverage at the deadline. But there’s a lot of hockey left until then.
I think one of the big teams will pull the pin before then post Hughes trade. The playoff arms race will probably start in the second half of the season. Same comments around Coleman. I don’t think Kadri will be dealt mainly because of the amount of term left on his contract.

Tough to lose Jarvis, he was having a hell of a season. Wonder if Carolina would be in the market for a center now?

Jarvis was playing RW, no? The Canes' Cs are Aho, Stankoven, Staal and Jankowski

Yeah, he’s listed as a center but doesn’t play that position at all. He’s averaged 2 faceoffs per game over the last four years (around the same as Matt Coronato for perspective).

TMZ Frank really made it sound like there is a hot Market for Coleman, said that 20 teams or so have called on him.
Other side of that of course it 20 teams offered crap. So hopefully someone nuts up and offers what he's worth.
Otherwise Seravelli says that the Flames want to move Andersson before the Olympic Break. Says Dallas is a front runner if they can put Seguin on the LTIR all the way to the playoffs.

Over the last couple weeks Steinberg has started to talk more about out Coleman too and that he will be shocked if he’s still here after the deadline
I had my money on Coleman being dealt next deadline but it’s looking like that may be wrong

And hopefully that team that offers what Coleman is worth is on his 10 team trade list...

Curious to know what kind of a response he was expecting.

Blake Coleman has been in contact with a north Dallas real estate agent since Dec 15 or so.
To be clear players can window shop or build or buy a house wherever they want without it meaning anything. But the timing + he has specifically been linked to that team

Don't they have a massive home in Dallas already?

Yeah. They already have an offseason home in the Dallas/Fort Worth area they showed on Flames TV a couple of years ago.
Coleman is from the North Dallas area.

Flames 2nd round picks since Andersson
Kylington
Parsons
Dube
Kuznetsov
Stromgren
Ronni
Morin
Basha
Battaglia
Stockselius
We still don't know what we have in Stromgren, but he probably projects as a bottom 6 forward. Morin, Basha, and Battaglia seem like they've taken a bit of a step back from last year. Mostly because the AHL is a hard league for rookies. Battaglia is really off his 1.32PPG pace, down to 0.74PPG though on a terrible Frontenacs team. Stockselius had a great U20, but then a freak injury had him sidelined since the 2nd game of the season.
That said, I don't think of Andersson is an irreplaceable piece, nor do I think that a few years from now a 35 year-old Andersson would provide the same value to the Flames as the assets they get, plus the younger player that slots into his minutes.
|
Just looking at this list, and thinking about 2nd round picks... what is it - about a 10% chance of the top 6 / top4 player from a 2nd round pick?
So Andersson certainly qualifies. Dube was trending in that direction until being derailed. Kuznetsov probably tops out as a #4, but we'll see. And Stromgren, Morin, Basha, Battaglia and Stockselius are still too early to judge.
Honestly, I think that is pretty good - there's a reasonable chance that we get one more out of these last few, but even if we don't, that is probably a pretty as-expected set of results over those 11 2nd round picks.
Keep acquiring 2nds, keep drafting well, and keep developing well, and it is a pretty decent set of complementary assets, to go with all the 1sts.
