This is the correct answer.
It's also low-key hilarious that it's the correct answer because we've gone through so much consternation as a society over the conclusion that "gender is not binary", yet there's a whole side argument going on with the main two positions each asserting which binary answer is the correct one for this gender in sports issue.

That's the thing...the ban is so not about safety or fairness of competition that the government themselves directed sports administrators that during the time period in which an investigation / decision is being made about whether a child meets the eligibility requirements or must be banned...the player accused of violating the ban gets to keep playing.
Quote:
Can an athlete continue to compete if a challenge to their eligibility has been made?
Yes. Athletes can continue to compete in a female-only league, class or division of a relevant sport until the board of an in-scope entity has determined that the athlete does not meet the eligibility requirements.
Athletes that do not meet the eligibility requirements must be prohibited by boards of in-scope entities from participating in a female only league, class or division of a relevant sport.
|
If the 'challenged' player is subject to being banned on the basis that their participation would be unsafe and / or render the competitions unfair, then how can they be permitted to continue playing for potentially a couple of months while the challenge and appeal process is running its course?
Also - side note - there is no show and tell or DNA swabs. The process for determining a challenge is the kid has to secure a copy of their original hospital record showing the sex they were registered as at birth (not birth certificates because they can say something else)...and the Alberta taxpayers are ultimately footing the bill:

To be clear I believe the same, it may only be an issue in high level sport. But as we all know, you give these mother####ers an inch...

I’m not sure I get the joke.
Nor do I think the conversation is around which binary answer is correct.

At what skill level does it matter:
a local track meet? who cares?, Zones? maybe, Provincials?, yes.
At what age does it matter:
Under 14?, who cares, between 14-30( if competitive)?, yes, after 30? who cares
Is it a contact sport:
No, who cares, Yes, maybe people should care.
Do they need to share a change room:
they don't, who cares. They do, a sperate change room might be required.

I had to submit a declaration for my daughter to compete in curling. It’s freaking stupid. I know the schools hands are ties, but it does feel cathartic to jot “#### Danielle Smith” on it.

And something that girls are subjected to, but not boys. I know I would have felt a lot safer as a girl if my parents had to fill out some creepy form when I was in school.

I play pool...sometimes even against women (its actually often). Thus far my genetic male condition has failed to garner me any perceived advantage beyond being able to hold my booze a little better.

Art though insinuating that the boys might be less hesitant having their genitals checked by the school Nurse?

So if the NDP somehow wins the next election, how long until the conservative parties merge again into the UCTP?

I think Guthrie was on the wrong side of a number of conversations but taking up the fight against the UCP and Smith wins him points in my book. For him there is no going back.
Maybe he will actually hear the message that the province sent to the PCs a decade ago that they need to "do better" as a conservative party... or maybe he'll just aim to be a moderate party like the Alberta Party always has been.
Either way, I think there is a chance that he could start peeling away a lot of support from the UCP and set up the PTPA as the future opposition party and then, who knows?
Hopefully they build stronger guardrails within this new party to prevent takeovers from small interest groups like TBA and the Separatists. Then it will just be a matter of watching the UCP implode and fall apart.

No, I'm flat out saying it's wrong that girls who want to participate in sports have to get a creepy form filled out and boys don't. None of our children should be forced to do that.
