I think we are setting up for the following Top 6 (in no order) by the end of the year, which would be a great mix of young players with Weegar leading the way. I still think they will need one solid veteran defender to round it out.
Weegar
Parekh
Brzustewicz
Kuznetsov
Bahl
XXX
7th dman (Pachal?)
... for another veteran defensemen, here are some options in Free Agency:
Carlson
Burns
Hamonic
Schenn
.. personally, I would love to bring in Brent Burns for a season.

Hamonic is not an NHL Dman anymore.

Hamonic the first time around was nightmare fuel. Lets not go down that road again.

The Hitmen did too at the teddy bear toss game.
Honestly thought my ears were going to explode with 15xxx+ kids screaming.
Different decibel level when its a "kids" game like the Hitmen or Wranglers.

I love the 6-7 thing.
It is silly, makes no sense, but kids have so much fun with it.
I think it's fantastic.

Even better is if this becomes a bidding war:
Sharks
Ducks
Stars
VGK
Leafs
The bottom 3 teams keep the baseline of the deal somewhere around a 1st + good prospect +.
But if the Sharks and Ducks get into it that could make things really interesting. They are not just division rivals, they are next door neighbours. The first team to offer Conroy a young strong C prospect, wins.

Cellebrini plays with the same bite that Raz does, so you'd think that would appeal to Raz.

The 6-7 cam was also all over the two Rivalry Series games I attended last week here at Rogers. Kids loved it.

What would be fun now would be to start comparing (pretend) offers:
Sharks = Oilers 2026 1st + Bystedt
Ducks = Ducks 2026 1st + Nilson + ??
Stars = Stars 2027 1st + Bischel
VGK = Knights 2027 1st + Connelly
Leafs = Leafs 2028 1st + Danford + ??
I think those are pretty soft initial offers and expect each team would be ready to step up one or two times from there...

I wasn't given that info. I was told there is an offer out there and a conversation was had about an interest in a sign and trade. Sharks are throwing out feelers to see if there is something there.
My source is someone directly on the payroll in the Sharks organization. They are batting 1000 so far from past information so I trust them fully.
In terms of the Sharks, Ferraro and Liljegren are expected to be moved at the deadline. San Jose is also pleasantly surprised how the team has been playing and how the younger players have adapted. They would like to add a couple vets surrounding the young talent but not as rentals. Defense is the priority hence the interest in Andersson. There are 1-2 other names on defense they are after as well.
Anyways, thought I'd share.
Also I've lived in San Jose for 16 years now (after previously living in Calgary, Edmonton and Fort McMurray growing up) and the area is amazing. I can see why players would want to play here.

Appreciate the info. Might go back to Friedman's comment that Conroy's not really pursuing an extension trade, as he doesn't want to box himself into a corner like with Hanifin.
If Andersson is available as a rental to all teams (minus his NTC teams) and a team thinks they have a chance at resigning the player, they may be willing to pay more than if the Flames let the agent negotiate and he tells teams that Andersson is only interested in extending with X or Y team.
The San Jose offer might then just be too soft to even start a conversation internally about an extension trade. Perhaps if San Jose really upped their offer, Conroy might accommodate.

This could make sense. Only problem is how easy it is to tamper with players under contract in the NHL. We’ve already heard Friedman mention that Andersson would consider signing an extension with Toronto. Conroy not letting teams talk to Andersson doesn’t seem to keep them from going around him through back channels to find out if Andersson would sign an extension.

Have to kinda wonder what San Jose’s plan actually is for the backend. It is pretty weak and they don’t really have any top prospects on the backend that are not already in the NHL. They could use two top 4 dmen on that roster and the only way you get them is through trades as a general rule.

My guess is they are aggressive in a trade for a top 4 dman in the ilk of Andersson.
And I think they also go for more of a "like for like" trade where they move a young forward prospect for a young d-man prospect (looking at a team like NJ that has Nemec, Hughes, Casey, Silayev etc)
I do wonder if Ferraro is a guy that could stay if they take strides this year. Seems like he actually kind of fits with what they would need to replace if they do move him.

Short term, they need a #1RD
Orlov-???
Ferraro-Klingberg
Dickinson-Mukhamadullin
Leddy-Liljegren
But only three of those guys have contracts beyond this year. They'll need to promote more youth and maybe sign an UFA or two... but the market is really thin behind Andersson.
Orlov-???
Dickinson-Mukhamadullin
Cagnoni-Iorio
Thompson
And then Orlov's contract expires and they must be hoping that Dickinson is ready for the top pair by 2027-28 but neither LD or RD look very strong behind Dickinson and Mukhamadullin and they really need to find a #1RD. Trying to draft one will take years and they arguably need to fill the spot right now.

It’s weirder when you see a group of adults doing it at a hockey game. Saw it on the fan cam in Seattle and had no clue wtf was happening
