I might be wrong but there are few examples of deals where it's a good vet for a blue chip prospect.

There are two that come to mind:

2022-Jun-29 Brock Faber Traded from Los Angeles Kings with round 1 pick in the 2022 draft (Liam Ohgren) to Minnesota Wild for Kevin Fiala

And then of course this epic fail:
2013-Apr-03 Filip Forsberg traded from Washington Capitals to Nashville Predators for Martin Erat and Michael Latta

Again, I might be forgetting others.
And Faber wasn't Faber yet at the time of that trade.

He was a guy that had 3 goals and 26 points in 59 career NCAA games at the time of that trade. He looked like he'd be a good puck moving defensive dman at the next level but not a star.

Then he went and had more goals as an NHL rookie (8) than he did in 3 NCAA seasons (7).

I would add the most recent Hughes trade as one blue chip (Buium) and volume to the list.

Branstrom was thought to be an elite prospect at the time of the Stone trade, a recent 15th overall pick from 19 months earlier who had put up impressive points in the AHL as a rookie up to that point.

It is also rare for teams to be trading an asset of high value and not expecting to get any immediate help back, which is a contributing factor I think to how rare it is.

For me if it was a 1st and a mid prospect the first would have to be the Sharks first. The Oilers first will not be worth much in all likelihood. Sharks could easily be 11th or 12th overall.

The rumour was for a signed Rasmus though. Would agree that a rental is probably that type of package but what is the point of trying to trade him somewhere he will sign if not to increase the value of the package.

I think Cal Ritchie types should certainly be the goal. I didn't see him as the same type of blue chip as was being discussed.

Suzuki I can't remember how highly he was regarded when dealt.

Good examples though.

I think the fact it is so hard to find good examples probably proves your main premise

a recent one that doesn't really qualify likely based on the caliber of either the input or output was Savoie for McLeod

Any intel on whether they have had conversations with Andersson’s agent on contract already?

Sharks with an extension in place would be a great fit for all parties. Sharks have the assets to trade, are about to become a perennial playoff team IMO, and could definitely use the veteran presence. Would love to get Edmonton’s 2026 1st round pick.

I will say that Andersson nixed 1 California team, I’d be hard pressed to see him extend in another but a young talented team… never know.

He’s wanted a cup contending team to date however.
I think SJ has always been popular for veterans/family men. It's laid back, nice community, decent weather etc. it's perceived differently from LA.

They won't be competing this year but I think they might suddenly click and become a really good team sooner than people think.

Oh, yeah, the Corey Millen deal! He was some dude out of Dallas, I guess.

I think there was a prospect included in that deal. Did he ever amount to anything?

Names I think could be available would be Bystedt, Cagnoni, Lund, Halttunen, Sahlin Wallenius, Mckinney, Wang.
I suppose they might be convinced to move one of their young "untouchables " if they consider the potential for logjams and all those RFA contracts coming up. I doubt a cup winning team will have all those guys if and when they get there.

That Erat/Forsberg trade is probably a huge reason trades like that dont happen.

I’d love that fit. Rasmus would be a great addition to that team. They would love his swagger there and they are definitely on the up. Good pieces there too.

Joe was a twice 50 goal scorer with tons of tangible. The closest comparable today would be Rantenen. You may get a blue chip for those

Andersson is no where near that level

I wonder how much we'd have to add along with an extended Rasmus to get Sam Dickenson

2nd rounder?

I'd do it
