Hands down the worst snow storm I've ever seen in Calgary. The wind is so strong that you can't even breath with it in your face. I just tried to walk across a street and was gasping for air so much that I had to hide beside a building to get my breath back and then go back to my office building because there's no way I could make two blocks into the wind. I haven't seen anything like this since my days of working in the Shell Waterton plant.

We don't often get legit blizzards. I tried to head East but there is zero visibility. I'll park and wait it out.

Yeah, I dont know...I always hesitate to say 'worst ever' because...they happen. Its not like I'm keeping track or anything so it'd be a half-assed opinion at best were I to say it.

But its bad. It sucks out there and it displeases me. If there is one weather element I hate above all others...its wind.

Add cold and snow and the wind has made a powerful and life-long enemy this day!!!

We should get every oil well in the Province flaring out...."Oh yeah Nature? Thats how you want to play this? Well we can fight back!!"

LOL have you been outside? Looking at it out the window doesn't do it justice. I grew up in Southern Alberta where they get the real blizzards and this is the kind of stuff blizzard that would be bad in Lethbridge.

Where are you? I just walked a few blocks downtown and it was definitely blowing a lot of snow around but it was totally manageable. And usually the wind tunnels make it worse here.

Yeah it's legitimately 0 miles visibility reported at the airport which basically never happens. At worst we get down 1/8 of a mile. Sounds like the wind is lightening up just a tiny bit now.

Sunridge industrial area. The buildings downtown may be shielding the wind. I had snow/ice buildup on my face after about 10 seconds. That's the stuff I remember as a kid growing up in the Crowsnest Pass.

Walking downtown where tons of buildings are blocking the wind surely helps lol. I have a push out window in my office and I push it fully open and the wind slams it shut instantly. There's no way the outer highways can be open if they are getting this too.

This is reminding me of the winter storm in Dec 2013, where they shut all the roads down. IIRC, our resident eye doctor here on CP, was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on the TCH in that storm, and they shut the highway shortly after. My husband got caught out on one of the back roads between Hwy 9 & Hwy 718, on the 564, and ended up having to pull into a farmer's yard after not being able to go any farther. There was another pileup on the 564, just east of the 718 turnoff. Farmer ended up driving him into Strathmore in a giant tractor, lol, to get him home that night, & we couldn't get his car for 2 days after that, couldn't travel the roads.

The QE2 between Airdrie & YYC was just closed, big accident at the 40th Ave overpass and sounds like it's as bad or worse up toward Carstairs. The husband guy is staying home, was supposed to work 1-10 today, but even the boss said stay home, they can't even see between the buildings, which is only about 60 feet.

I have now seen two inflatable Christmas decorations go by the front window...one Grinch and one Olaf. From a couple doors down and now pinned against the neighbours garage.
