No turn based game falls into that category? That's a statement at odds with the success of Baldur's Gate or FF. Clearly it resonated with the masses and far more appealing than an old school medieval RPG. After all E33 cleaned house on the awards which is pretty rare for an game so clearly it has mass appeal behind it. Also it's not a traditional turn based game and more a hybrid game style blending turn based and real time. Maybe the twist turn based combat is why people liked it so much combined with a pretty solid story.
I'm not upset that E33 won GOTY as I would much rather it go to a game like this from a smaller developer that tried something different than say a re-manufactured Sony 1st party game. I'm just a little sad that KCD2 was so overlooked and underappreciated as games with such high quality, immersive storylines like that don't come along often. I'm a guy that when a game is completed, I've already moved on to the next game but that game left a mark on me like no game since the Witcher 3.
