Seems pretty clear that this is headed towards regime change (and installation of a US puppet). Only question is whether there will be US drones in the air or even boots on the ground. Happy holidays everyone!

It is certainly possible. Do you have a source or is this your own opinion?

It's clearly and obviously their opinion. Words like "seems pretty clear" and "only question" indicate that. Do you have conversations in your everyday life? Nothing in their post even resembles a statement of fact that would require a source.

I would think, given that Caracas is basically a fortress surrounded by jungle and mountains, that this would involve a very high proportion of casualties. Like, send 10, get 7 back back sort of territory. Maybe worse?

A 'war' with Venezuela does a lot of things for trump...
- would satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This would is for his ghoul Stephen Miller
-the oil/money would make trump and his rich buddies happy
-distraction (if possible) from the trump/Epstein file release that is legally required by Friday (50/50 that happens)
-appeals to his ever shrinking base and his historically bad approval numbers, even with them

Only a few issues with that.. Congress has the power to declare war, not the President (though they're certain to test that with the unitary executive theory). The oil market is in pretty steep decline. WTI prices are nearing the point where it's no longer economical to drill, so flooding the market with more oil won't help that. I don't see anyone getting distracted by this; it's just more #### to pin on him. And lastly, his base absolutely does not want another war - but these idiots don't think that far ahead.

I suspect the goal to begin with was to scare Venezuela into a regime change, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen now and the U.S. has put themselves into a position where they either back down and appear weak, or they follow through and look villainous.
I am surprised that they haven't been using Venezuela's violations of Guyana's sovereignty as a pretext. Guyana has been lobbying the international community for help, so it would have been an easy one.

An invasion of Venezuela would be catastrophic for the US, it is a huge country mostly mountainous jungle, so drones airpower and armor's use is limited, the population may not like Maduro but they wont like Yankee invaders any more, there is 200 years of the US being pricks to south and central America that will motivate a pushback, the oil facilities will be easily sabotaged, freedom fighters will take to the hills, supported by the many still existing hard left communist groups in the region, the Shining Path etc, the cost will be vast in both dollars and bodies or they will lose and be humiliated

Thats why I called it a 'war' in quotation marks, it would be a illegal invasion, trump dont care about the law. Or Congress.
And its not the immediate sale of oil, its long term ownership of those resources, Venezuela has the 2nd largest oil reserves in the world.
The deportations are for his racist base.

If regime change is the end goal, then boots on the ground are needed.
You can not hold land and cause a government change without boots.
