Happy they won it for the dads. Completely dominated this game. Must have been a difficult game for Wolf not seeing any action for long stretches. Hopefully Backlund is ok.
Just a fantastic pass and a fantastic shot by Frost. That redirect was harder than it looked, and I am glad that Frost got it.
LA screwed up their rebuild not only with poor draft picks, but also 'that trade'. Just shot themselves in the foot. Andersson is right not to want to go play for them - they have no hope of winning a thing. Why would you want to join a team that Edmonton ( and Calgary who are rebuilding) continually beat? Might as well just stay in Calgary. They are sunk next season when Kopitar retires - I think they still really rely on him. Doughty is not far off from retirement either. They are also one of the more boring teams in the league to watch. Just a lot of 'meh' on that team. Might as well call them the L-Meh Kings.
Conroy knows what he’s dealing with, but they aren’t going to trade just to tank. Players will be moved, but don’t be upset if young guys step in and this team remains competitive.

They're 5 points out of a wildcard, you're not going to get your wish.
Always look at points percentage. With the Flames having played more games than most teams, that 5 is more like an 8. Have to prorate for it.
Thankfully I think CC is an honest guy and unlike one or two of his colleagues, he isn't biting on the recent improvement as indicative of playoff potential.
And it certainly won't affect any dealings around players coming in or out.
playing well and the only way they stay at the bottom is trading away Ras, Kadri, and Coleman...but i will continue to cheer the wins and accept the losses.
GFG!

Either way though, I like Frost and it was a dad's trip game. So not the worst one to win.

He clearly isn’t much of a fighter, but the fact that he will shed the mitts is admirable considering the gutless nature of the organization as a whole.

Worst period the Kings have played this season, so far. There's still so much time for it to get worse.
Quote:
Pretty much all Flames after Kempe's goal, Kuemper keeping them above water.
Quote:
Decent period, but needed Kuemper to bail them out on more than a couple saves
Quote:
A better team would've scored 4 against the Kings after that awful first. So many turnovers and grade A chances by the Flames
Quote:
We are getting thrown around be the Calgary Flames. Shots 22-7
Quote:
Absolutely getting bodied
Quote:
it should be 7-1 right now. It's the god damn Flames, not the Avs. What a horrible performance against a horrible team.
Quote:
We're struggling against one of the worst teams in the league. This is ####ing embarrassing.
Quote:
We're getting out shot 23-9 to one of the worst teams in the league.

Turned on the game. Saw the shot clock. Turned it off.

So despite the score we’re just getting absolutely outplayed huh?

Yes, Kuemper is playing lights out, but can we please take some of the heat off him

Allergic to f***ing shots....thats f***ing embarassing.
Its really simple, shoot, crash the net, hit everything in an opposing jersey, rinse and repeat often.

I’m new to hockey. Shots are like strokes in golf, right? You want them to be super low? Right?
Quote:
You remember the saying you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take? Well the Kings miss 100% of the shots they plan on taking.

Hiller told them they’re not allowed to shoot until they pass it at least 10 times in the O-zone

OK, here’s the game plan. We’re gonna skate around until we find our defensive groove. Once you get into your defensive groove you’re gonna try and steal passes and you can try and score maybe if you’re good at defending all game
Yea
you guys ready!!
Let’s go get in the way!!!!

Holy crap, we seriously scratched Kuzmenko again? For ####s sakes fire Hiller NOW

What’s up with Kuzi being scratched again? I know he’s not at his best but he’s still an offensive threat. Am I missing something?

All I want for Christmas is for Jim Hiller to get fired
Quote:
Post game press conference after Calgary W
REPORTER 1: Jim, what do you say to criticism that the system is too conservative and doesn’t generate offense?
HILLER: I’m glad you asked. We actually generate offense constantly. Tonight alone we generated:
3 strong looks
4 pretty good looks
4 looks that were spiritually dangerous
and one look where the puck looked at the net with intent.
REPORTER 2: Your team’s offense has been near the bottom by goals-per-game. The power play is 32/32 and, in fact, causes goals against. What's the solution?
HILLER: Again, context! You have to adjust for externalities:
Ice quality (some arenas are frankly too icy)
Puck humidity
Opposing goalies (many are clearly goaltending)
Zamboni guy missed a spot
Overinflated puck.
REPORTER 3 Coach, what do you tell your players after a game like this?
HILLER: I tell them the truth: we’re right there. We’re a couple bounces, a couple calls, a couple goals away. We are well on the way to beating Edmonton for sure this time.

The best we can do on a power play is nonstop passing to set up Doughty from Hawaii

How did they just get a 2 on 1 from that? WTF

And we're coming off a loss to the Kraken who've been one of the worst teams in the league recently.
This team sucks.
And ANOTHER short handed goal against.

Kings are getting dominated by the Flames, a team Jim Hiller has not been able to solve since last season.

This Kings team is special.

Another funny thing is, how in the f*** does the "powerplay coach" still have a job?
Quote:
Win or lose I think this one is worse than that Chicago loss. Getting dominated at home by the Flames who are a couple weeks away from being a last place team selling off their players for a rebuild. Complete embarrassment for the city of Los Angeles.
Their captain would rather be golfing and Doughty who they continued to build around is getting smoked by 4th liner Lomberg. Zero intensity zero accountability. They surely are going through the motions and quit on the coach. I just cant tell if they quit on each other.

Despite the 1-1 score, this has genuinely been the most pathetic performance of the season, and there have been some ####ing #### ones.
What the actual #### are they doing?
Quote:
Holy freakin’ crap. Can’t see the game but just looked at the stats: outshot 29-11 at home by a horrible team?? Only 11 SOG thru 2 periods?????
Edit: They just updated the SOG to 31-10. Even worse.
Quote:
This is the second game I’ve been able to watch this season. (Live in the EST)
What the #### is this power play? My 10 year old nephews team has a better power play.
They have absolutely no chemistry or flow. It’s like a group of beer league players that are playing together for the first time.
Turcotte, Juice, and Laffy are the three best players on the ice. Phil is sick (possible trade?) so we bench Kuzy and run three lines and burn everyone out?
If they make one more no look, behind the back pass I’m going to bed…
Not So Golden Kid

It’s legitimately hilarious how mediocre Byfield is

this team doesnt give a f***. Byfield is f***ing around on purpose, trying to do some dangles doesnt care about taking shots. Its a rebellion.
Quote:
Does Byfield not understand what he means to this team? He was drafted to be the future leader of this team but looks like he'd be happy just passing it up every single time and sitting back.
Quote:
Not enough blue chew in the world to make Byfields game play solid. Limp as always.
Quote:
Byfield needs to just shoot the puck more instead of trying to make a perfect pass between 2-3 defenders.

Hiller said in the pregame that he had a convo with him and asked him to shoot more and added that he is sure we are going to see it tonight. Well...

The most Kings ending I can possible think of. Clarke had no confidence to try to pass to Byfield, tries to do it himself, and it ends in a whimper. Pathetic.

perfect, just perfect. well earned loss

I really can't tell who needs to be fired more. Hiller or Brown
Quote:
Hiller: “I don’t understand what the booing is about. We consistently give the fans free hockey in the form of constant overtime games.”
Quote:
Some very well deserved boo’s. This is pathetic
Quote:
Why are we continuing this charade?? We have NO identity, NO flow to our game. Q hasn't scored in 12 games, we can't generate enough offense to be a playoff contender.
STOP the chaos, get Hiller out, open up the game so Alex, Adrian, Q, etc can shine. This is embarrassing AGAIN.....another year wasted.
Quote:
Instead of watching those three early games coming up this next week I’m gonna schedule a root canal, colonoscopy and an enema during those times.
I’ll at the very least be more entertained.
Quote:
I’m beyond fed up with this team. One goal again and another OT loss — the LA Kings have zero offensive identity. Watching them try to win 2–1 every night is miserable hockey, and it fails over and over. Jim Hiller is brutal. No creativity, no adjustments, just dump-and-chase and hope Kopitar or Kempe saves them. That’s not a system, that’s desperation.
Luc Robitaille’s legend status doesn’t excuse years of drifting. No identity, no urgency, no accountability. And Ken Holland bringing his outdated, safe, slow hockey mindset only makes it worse. This team plays not to lose and still loses. It’s boring, embarrassing, and a complete waste of talent.

If that ends up being the marching orders, then this team will never be good to any real degree.
…we’re still 3rd last in the league, Conroy knows where this team is. He’ll act accordingly. Unless you really think he’s content with having another season like last year, which I personally do not think that’s where his head is.

Unfortunately, it is not Conroy I am worried about.
Unfortunately, it is not Conroy I am worried about.
It is dumb and dumberer at the top above him.
Ah, I don’t hold as pessimistic views as you on that front. I think Conroy will get to do what he needs to do. We’ll see in time, but only the worst managed team in the league would sit back and say “steady as she goes, we’re within 5 points!”.
Focus, I imagine, remains on the future. There’s no way this management team is sitting there thinking they’re close to anything meaningful. If they are, well…see above.
By competitive do you mean competing for 9th or 10th place in the west?
Either way though, I like Frost and it was a dad's trip game. So not the worst one to win.
I mean compete game to game, and the chips fall where they may. Sutter ensured there were no passengers and that commitment has been instilled in this roster, so removing a few vets isn’t going to plunge this group into an abyss. They might end up bottom 5, but that will be more a product of the competition, not incompetence or indifference on the part of this team.
The worst case scenario would be finishing 17-21 and still having Andersson, Coleman and Kadri on the roster post trade deadline. The fans will grumble, the players in question will have seen another season pass without a post season appearance and the rest of the league will sense a growing desperation in the management ranks. I can’t imagine anyone in the organization wants to be a part of that scenario.
