On the Flames.
I believe the Caps are now fully focused on Ras, when Quinn hit the market they had to try. Lots of rumors of the capital's offer out there, so should shed some light on who maybe available from the caps. As previously mentioned they followed the flames when EAST heavily.
Kadri's camp and flames camp have had recent conversations, for me to hear this is a positive sign we may see some movement. Last updated I heard ZERO.
More to come, the league is very alive right now. That Olympic break has "expedited the process for a lot of clubs" from one source.
Grab a coffee.

Ilya Protas looks like an interesting target from the Caps for the Flames. 2024 3rd round pick with size that has put up great numbers since his draft year. Also listed as a C/LW. Would also obviously be interested in McMichael or Hutson.

Capitals have a lot of attractive prospects/young NHLers. They would be a good trading partner.

Cole Hutson may have been on the table for Quinn Hughes, but I have a hard time seeing the Caps give him up for anyone else.

The Lebrun article said they wouldn’t include him in the deal for Hughes so he is not available for Ras

Caps are in tight spot with their forward group, even with their injured guys back it's a little sparse. I think for an Andersson trade they are going to be prospect heavy.
Lapierre (recent AHL playoff MVP is the kind of character I like on a team)
Lakovic (they have three really good RW prospects. With Leonard hitting, he might be available)

I would imagine Minnesota is done until the deadline and probably wouldn’t be in the market or have the assets anyway now for Kadri or Andersson

Listening to the Flames talk from yesterday and Pat and Logan could not stop talking about Dallas with Andersson. I just scratch my head with what assets they have that make the Flames feel good about the return? That Tanev trade from a couple years ago is likely going to yield nothing.

I mean, they could absolutely go all in and acquire both Coleman AND Andersson. Andersson and Coleman (50%) for 2027 1st, Bischel, Bourque, cond. 2029 2nd* (if Stars make the finals, 2029 1st is given, if they don't, 2026 3rd is given along with the 2029 2nd).
- 2027 1st is 10 top protected, if the Stars miraculously become top 10, then the 2029 2nd becomes a 2029 1st unprotected.

God I hope the Flames are not high on Bourque, almost 24 years old, has never put up offensive numbers in the NHL. Don’t think there is much of a player there, looks like another Sam Steel. Would rather just have Bischel and their 2027 1st for Rasmus.

Could see a Hamilton/Hamonic type deal. 2026 2nd or 3rd and 2027 1st. Or if an extension can be worked out, two second round picks (‘26 and ‘27) plus the ‘27 first.

If I’m the Flames, no conditions on the pick. Likely moot in any event but why would the Flames do them the favour?
With the cap going up, I think we will see less retention and less conditions on picks.

I wouldn't write off Bourque with the players he's behind. If you're trading Coleman (and possibly Kadri down the road), you're probably getting a top 5 pick in 2027 with your top 2 centers as Frost and Bourque. You've got to give him a shot in the middle 6 with some ice time. Bonus that he's a RH center. I am mainly for the picks and Bischel, but Bourque is a decent dart to throw while we wait for Reschny.

Contending teams are still going to need retention. If the Stars want to re-sign Andersson and also have Seguin still on the team, they are going to need Coleman at 50%. Especially if they're re-signing Robertson.

I won’t lie if that is the deal with Dallas I don’t like it at all considering it costs 2/3 of the flames veteran assets on the move.

Bourque is not even playing center this year, they have moved him to RW. Doubt he is a NHL center. If he was drafted 5 spots later in his draft year nobody would be really interested in him. He has similar value to a Marat Khusnutdinov in my opinion.
Bourque was taken 30th overall in 2020, the Flames just got the 30th overall pick in the 2019 draft for free. Bourque is worth more than the guy who was picked in his spot a year earlier but I am not sure how much more he is worth.

Man i hate NHL GMs.
Hurry up and give a fair offer for the Flames players you know you want and everybody knows are available for the right price. Bunch of fricken cheap skates. Ras should be gone by now, and the Flames should already have another 1st rounder plus in their possession FFS

2027 1st + 2026 2nd + Emil Hemming + Cam Schmidt
That, I think, is effectively the H. Lindholm return equivalent or in the same ballpark.
If the Flames wanted to target a LHD, you could look at Tristan Bertucci as well (don’t know much about him).
I just don’t think Bischel will come into play.

That Jacob Battaglia kid did put up 90 points in the OHL last year, which was 11th in the OHL, ahead of a guy you might have heard of in Beckett Sennecke. Admittedly, Sennecke did play fewer games.
I'm not saying he's a surefire NHLer, but it's way too early to tell, IMO. The trade would've been better if we had gotten the conditional 3rd in 2026.
The stupid Oilers cost us that 3rd rounder by eliminating DAL, and another 3rd round pick in the Lindholm trade by eliminating VAN. I'm only glad about moving down one spot with the FLA selection, picking 32nd is much better than picking 31st.
As for DAL assets:
- Bichsel, 21 (LHD), selected 18th overall in 2022, he is a surefire NHLer, he's huge(6'7"), he hits anything that moves, and he's very mobile. If the Flames had a type of player they covet this is it.
- Hemming,19 (RW), selected 29th in 2024, he's a powerwinger with a good shot. He's already too good for the OHL, but similar to Basha, he has yet to figure out the AHL.
- Bourque, 23 (C/LW), selected 30th in 2020, was one of the top AHL producers and looked like he had 1st line potential. He hasn't been as consistent in the NHL, producing at a 25-30 point pace.
- Top picks in the next 3 drafts: 1sts: 27'
2nds: 26', 27'
3rds: 26'(SEA), 28'

Yes, and he's projected to have 92 points in 54 game played in the OHL, which I think is too good.

Ya he is good, just thought you thought he was in the AHL. Saw him play a few weeks back, he is a solid player.
