Have there been any public comments from the players involved?
I’m not fan of Skinner. I don’t think he is a good goalie and he made some comments in the past that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. It could just be the Oilers smarminess trickling down from the top though. But he also isn’t as bad as the Oilers made him look.

I thought a lot of the comments in here are CP bias but I can not find many articles or comments that think this was a good move for the oilers outside of fanboys. I was actually quite surprised. I mean, I and many others think this is lateral at best but I really didn't think pundits would feel the same. Move for the sake of a move. Thos rarely turn out well.
Skinner is not great by any means but as has been pointed out countless times he was far from the oilers problem. I think Jarry will get exposed and will go the way of Campbell by this time next year. That contract seriously handcuffs the oilers as well. Love to see it.

Had it been Skinner for Jarry, then I think the common view is: change of scenery, see how it goes.
But giving up Kulak (to make the money work) is a pretty significant hit for the Oilers, just because their defense is pretty weak, and they have no one to step up and fill Kulak's boots.
Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Emberson
Stilman - Regula
Stastney
(until Walman is back)
They have 4 NHL defensemen (none of which are any good)

Yeah, I don't think there is a huge measurable difference between Skinner and Jarry. Both goalies are the type that for the most part reflect how good the team in front of them is. I guess that describes a lot of goalies around the league, but there are few games where anyone can say Skinner stood on his head and lost despite how good he played. There are lots of times where you couldn't specially blame him for the loss because the whole team was bad, but that's not quite the same.
Jarry has stood on his head at times, but not a lot recently and both goalies are subject to gratuitous errors and juicy rebounds. Even if Jarry "can" do it occasionally, if your team is relying on that, it's a problem.

Checking Pittsburgh scores on Hockey Reference and one thing that stood out to me. Jarry seems to give up an awful lot of third period goals when the game is hanging in the balance. Hope that trend continues.

Skinner is going to end up in El Salvador

Skinner has to settle some immigration paperwork after being acquired from Edmonton on Friday, making it unclear when he will be available to make his Pittsburgh debut. The Penguins recalled Sergei Murashov on an emergency basis to back up Arturs Silovs against San Jose on Saturday.

I think it might be a Pittsburgh thing (see today's game with Silos between the pipes).

Why do you hope he does well? I hope he makes Skinner look like the second coming of Hasek in comparison

Yes, no kidding. The sweet spot is Jarry doing worse than Skinner did, and Skinner being talked about for the Vezina in Pittsburgh (but not actually winning or being nominated for it - just "talked about").

I want Jarry to do just well enough that their pick in the draft isn’t a good one

Bizarre to read the narrative everywhere that Jarry will do better on a better team...like what? The kool aid is strong up there. Does any other team in the league sit in 17th with a negative goal differential and call themselves cup contenders?

I think it’s because Jarry can see the puck better because there’s less of his teammates hurrying back or even in the dzone.
No good is as no good does.

Overheard in Pittsburgh this morning:
"Wait, what? Our Captain and best player is backchecking in practice... ?! oh man, this is gonna be so much easier..."
